think of them as sound libraries. Basically certain labels produced music to be used in radio, tv, movies etc. The library records could have been used in radio ads, tv ads, tv show portions etc.

Check the links I posted in this thread for a more thorough (read better) description.

Glad to see you back in it, perhaps you have some information on the world of percussion albums. (see above)

At work at the mo. I'll have a dig around on that world of precussion 3. Reidy me thinks.... The IM discs have some awsome stuff on them in parts. Slightly over rated in terms of price, however there are some really unique tracks. I like alot of Eddie Warner and Yan Tregger's material on IM. Pop world of Yan Tregger is one of me fav's ...crazy east/west/folk crossover.

show me whatcha got.

Have 2 Cubes in my Expedit dedicated to Library.
Half of the second one is filled by selected sound....its more an addiction than anything else :)

I'm more into other stuff nowadays, the big excitement about libraries is basicly over, prices have dropped alot, and to be honest, 98% of all libs are crap.....as with all genres.

Still, perhaps there are some interesting trades to be made or infos to be passed.

this is possibly a retarded question, but have you ever been able to find any european library LPs in the US (that weren't already just imported by record shop owners)? Another way of me getting across what I'm trying to ask is, were library LPs predominantly used by the US media in the 60's and 70's or are there US library labels?

Since I live in Europa I cant say anything on that,

However, back in the days these different Library lables were put together in pools.
One Company would distributs like Programme sound, Impress, Southern etc and send you packages all around the world. I remember copping a bunch of peer libraries from Australia, dude hat a shytload of KPMs and other stuff to... I also know a handfull of people from the States that deal or trade with libs and most of them didnt buy them for topdollar from some "rare record dealer".

It is true that it is ALOT easier to find libraries in ordinary record stores in europe.
Truth is though: finding that one special lib with the funky shyts on is very very rare.
Southern European Libs are much more interesting than all this UK krap anyways 8)

I don't know if it has been posted but if you do some googling on libraries, you might end up on IZMs site (from france, NTM), Sermads or perhaps the VinylVulture forums. I remember reading loads of stuff on library distribution and on recording sessions in denmark street back then.

Do your homework

I'm not too sure UK library tunes are shyt. Plenty of top dollar composers from UK writing for a variety of Labels. Tis true that southern Europe has got plenty of awsome material. As c.toon mentioned ...homework is the key. However I see library tracks in a couple of lights. For one it can be sampled. i.e a shyt LP or tune can be rewoked to sound good. Or you are looking for a killer tune in it's own right. The latter tend to be the rarities. Most of the heavy weight LP's have homes now. The idea of earthing a stunning Library LP from beginning to end is not that common.

Again, if people are up for trades P.M us. i'll send you a list of ripped LP's.

Have faith I'm not one of these "serve-me-the-knowledge-on-a-silver-platter" heads, check my previous posts, I've been searching the 'net trying to get the good knowledge on my own. That said your info. is very helpful, I found the VV Uk site on my own and will have to check out the French site & Sermands.

I'll be shocked the day I come across a library record in a local shop (in the US that is).

Any help on what an "industrial" feel is to a song, I'm thinking about getting this, these things are so hit or miss. Can anyone recommend something labeled 'Industrial' or should I let it pass?
