Can you bring your MPC to a record shop and sample there?

I think its a good idea. Who needs all the stupid records anyway? You sample them, you throw them away.
If you can get away with it, go for it! Screw the sample purist. They live in the stone age
Ive heard stories from people going into a Guitar Center and sample all the synths/modules. Its cheap yes, but clever

I should add that if I had a record shop and I saw you sampling my records, I would kick your butt out of my store

I understand how this could be intersting to be able to find new samples and just have a lot of fun.. But SERIOUSLY , if I owned a record store and you come in asking me that I would probably laugh in your face. Not trying to be mean, but put yourself in the position of a record store owner and some guy wants to take up space in your store listiening to tons of your records and possibly damaging them , blocking the turntable from being used by custoimers that are actually gonna spend cash and all this for free?? Seriously that makes no sense ..... Besides, why would you want to do this? in the end you don't own the records you're sampling and all ,which is kiinda lame.... Don't get me wrong it would probably be fun to go through the record store and all but that's the thing.I would much rather be allowed to just listen to everything in a store(given it's not tooo big)and discover massive amounts of records and good music previously unknown to me.That's just my opinion though.

your crazy for that one cuz. how you kno u never ganna scoop somethin off that record again? Why wouldnt you wana listen to that record again? anything I sample I must first enjoy listening to it myself. Also most samplers are collectors as well. you crazy for that comment

if you want to sample records go to the library and take out records there ask them for a turntable to use.

purist or not ,this generation will destroy our music, and i have never heard anyone going to a store to ask for free samples THATS ABSURD!!!! i can't believe there's people that think like this ....whats goin on

i don't want to buy a record if all i want is a cymbal swell that comes in for 5 seconds. if i find a record i LIKE and actually want to LISTEN to, then i'll buy it

i very very rarely walk into a record store without buying a record out of interest/courtesy, but i'll be damned if i won't treat music like what it is, mankind's communal cultural heritage, ie mine for the harvest

I have to agree with some of the posters here. I'm not a huge record head even though I do dig occasionally, but ripping off record stores especially in a day and age when a shop could fold on a whim is straight up wrong. Buy those records if you want that sample and SUPPORT THE PROPRIETORS. Believe it ot not, most record shop owners are collectors themselves so they keep their shops open despite running at a loss. I download and sh1t, but ripping off record stores will earn you a place in hell.

Ain't that the truth. Too many have already gone by the way support them while they're still there.

That's just like going up to the weedman , pulling out a blunt , asking him can you roll one and smoke it right there . Even if you offer to pay him ,your making s/./.t hot and your looking very clownish .But that's just my 2 cents. Give it a try and tell us what happened.

Lugging an MPC to a record store doesn't make sense at all. And imagine a store owner letting you dig, sample records HE is gonna have to put back, and then he's got no sale to show for it, and your just waving a peace sign when your done....Wouldn't happen at any stores I go to.

a 500 would be ideal or just scoop a dr sample its battery as well and highly portable! but i have done this at a thirft store before they didnt know what i was doing!
