I agree..he definitely got shafted, it pisses me off that he doesn't get paid for it, but I'm sure everyone who has sampled funky drummer knows that he was the man behind that ish, and even though he isn't getting paid, he gets mad respect from every producer who's listened to or sampled him, which imo is just as nice as a paycheck, but that definitely won't pay the bills

yeah def a good doc, i recorded it .got it for my collection.

i excepted a bit more info on the sample law tho, those law suits were big back in the days i thought they would talk about that more.

yeah stubblefield got the short end, but same as herc they were fathers of a culture that they had part in in some way what a purpose in life that is.but yeah it dont pay the bills at the end of the day, thats why they still doing what they love, IT'S FOR THE LOVE

Definitely good points. I don't plan on being some famous producer or what not, so respect and appreciation of my music from other artists is something I try to achieve whenever I sample. I mean I've never released any of my music or even put it on the internet yet, but I can imagine how great it feels to chop up mad records and use a ton of samples from different artists and not have any of them be recognized. That'd be a nice middle finger to all the publishers and haters who are sayin sampling is lazy and yadda yadda yadda

yeah i got a lil flamed when dude said that too i could nt beleive it, but i guess thats what got me , it moved me in a way.but to each his own i say.i aint trying to make anyone person like sampling, it's just wat i do and what i love ,the music ,man no other music makes me feel that way i feel when i hear sample based music, i go nuts trying to figure out sample got chopped or whats what.

I'm a deejay then vocalist who learned to make beats then produce songs after recording engineering schooling

I make beats and produce songs/remixes using the same techniques and mixing tricks/skills i learned while deejayin.


The difference is I do with a sampling drum machine and software what i first learned to do with two technics and an mic


samples of songs to make beats in place of whole songs to make deejay mixes.


I give credit to the sampled artists in a beat just like in the track listing on a deejay mix or remix


new technology makes this "illegal" activity easier and easier every namm

Same here man. Its definitely a waste of time trying to change peoples minds about sampling and what you can do with it and how versatile it is. It seems that the only people who understand how much of an art form it is are the ones digging and spending every waking moment thinking about records and sampling, and its true, beat making becomes an addiction once you really sink your teeth into what can be done with some records and a little creative thinking.

These centralized, predatory, capitalist record labels could give a sh*t about the music or the 'art' of it. They're only out to maximize they're profits and inhibit true musical creativity. Art has no rules, neither should music

i can't wait to see this, a documentary on one of my favorite subjects that has a lot of my favorite artists in it, i love it when these kind of things come around. bout to watch this shit

never mind, the pbs thing has a lag between the audio and visual, youtube will suffice though!

I had that same problem at first, I just paused the video and then started it up again. No more lag.

I just got this a few days ago but still haven't watched it yet.Should be good though.

i tried that, but once it got to the next scene it came back, so i refreshed it, tried it again, and it would be fine but then after like 10 seconds it would come back, so i didn't want to bother with that and i just went to youtube. it was good though
