Where do you get your crates?

How do you guys dig through records with them stacked like that! They dont have a huge "spine" like library books. I have to see the front cover and stuff flippin through. I have crates, Mexican store is the greatest. They had some crates for spanish produce and they are like 12 length * 20 width * 10 depth. I got all the crates I needed. I'm just trying to figure out how to stack them.

Believe it or not, I know where every record I got is at or I can at least find it in 3 tries.

Its easy. In shelves I already sorted I know what in it and where so I don't need to "dig".
In unsorted shelves I make sure that there is enough free space (something like 3 inches) to dig thru.
I would like to dig like in the record shop too but there is no alterative for the "epedit way" when it comes to space efficiency. My "lab" isnt big enough.

eventually I will sort mine and put them in some sort of order... until then I grab random stacks and play them one by one.

I guess that means I need to separate and sort my records. I will get to that one day. Thanks.

Bump. I've been looking for ways to store my records, too.

I find the two best options are the IKEA Expedit, or buying milk crates directly from a manufacturer. Retailers have nice ones, but the price per crate is way too high you might as well buy an Expedit. If you buy direct, you get consistency, cleanness, volume discounts, less hassle, and rigid, industrial grade crates (not the flimsy office ones). What you're looking for is a 24 quart crate. A few sources: 1, 2, and 3. You should dig deeper online or locally, 'cause there'll be even better prices.

Even though I preferred something modular in the beginning, I went with the Expedit because:

1. I found a cheap connect.
2. I did not know this.
3. It's 15 inches in depth so I get to put my turntable and other stuff on it!

you leave a little room, and you flip thru them side ways, you get used to it real fast, i only got to see a sliver of the end of the cover and i usually know what it is

Thanks. Im trying it but these crates I got are so flimsy. I dont have lots of room and I tried to put the records in sideways and stack them on top of each other. The damn crates started falling. Im hoping I can move soon and just get a expedit (or whatever) and put them in there because these crates cant stack on top of each other. I'll take a pic and post it.

I used to know where I bought every record from. After I started buying collections....

internet explorer it's my turn in russia it's a very expensive pleasure to buy vinyl for 25-30$ in vinyls fair.. certanly it's not an american soul, funk, etc.. it's a some kind of lo-fi hungary, roman, holland, russian shit.. in special shops the cost about 50$ per record

OR leave a little room. Grab a handful of records pull them out of the shelf halfway so you can see the cover and just slide em back in until you find what you're looking for. This is a fast and efficient way for me to dig.

Where can you find those crates the ones you see at the record store? They are tall enough to fit the record vertically/horizontally and they are stackable.

my room is too small. it is a crate.
