Serrato and similar methods

ztrip uses some mac setup on his new tour. i was not impressed. he was just pushing buttons for drops and he used the delay effect on his mixer ofr almost all the mixes. no real beatmatching just derlay effect as he fades out then BAM new track in.. it just seemed lazy and didnt sound as good as a solid vinyl mix w/o effects. fwiw im staying vinyl tioll whenever and im afraid that i couldnt juggle records w/ serrato.. also i dont playout ofeten enought to need it..

ztrip would be unimpressive if he used trained housecats which spoke french.

yeah i saw the new z-trip tour show in albq about a week ago.. it was weak as hell. the new cd sucks. aceyalone was allright, gift of gab is retarded. i couldnt understand one thing he said...i was disappointed. ztrips opening dj played club ish.. it was pretty terrrible.

i wasnt realy into following a particlar dj but there was a few that if i know they were playin i would go to.
my friend is realy into Ztrip and shadow there cool but i have heard some dj's that dont play live sets like that put it down pretty ill.

I have no problem with SL, sounds great with a 192 bitrate. I don't see the point in beginners forking out for 1,000's of records now just so they can say that they learnt the old way. Why learn using a method which will cost you more money & time, will take up more space and will be overall more awkward? I'm pretty sure that they will learn the same skills as they would with vinyl and probably surpass all of us eventually.

Buying records does feel great, but only if they're great records or hard to come by. Dig for obscure records, download commercial shit that you're going to be using for gig use. Who really cares if they have the new 50 Cent/Timbaland as a record or an mp3? Bring a few records to gigs in case of a problem. I really don't see what the problem is.

Firstly I love collecting vinyl and agree that nothing sounds like wax. But down here in New Zealand if I want to go out and buy a new LP ie stones throw V/A Hella International 3LP it's gonna cost me $80nz, I know I can order it for cheaper from the usa and some times I do (normal LP's run me between $40 - $60nz) but when your just starting out it costs a whole lota money to get your self a decent collection. I've got quite a few records now but Serato is cool cos I can patch up huge holes in my collection till i can afford/find the records I want and till the day I die I'm still gonna want more wax than I've got.

On another note I'm gonna come to San fran for a dig soon, dj e.d.e can I hit ya up for some spots when I'm headed your way ?

one thing you''ll miss for sure if u go the serato route is the different personality that records tend to have...some skiny and some fat like chicks. haha....nah but really tho your pretty much stuck to the feel of those control records that come with serato. which isnt exactly bad....but i love that plastic man could never completly go digital. i'd just use it as another tool.

For me since i produce my own music id go serato then i could actually mix my own tracks.

Serato is your friend believe me... just did a show for my folks mixtape release party out here, downloaded all the crews songs to Serato and rocked a cool show set... then spun some party joints I already had from the digital crates... This was the first official show I did with Serato even though I've had it for about a year now... no problems except I kept taking the control record off and lookin down at the invisible crates.

haha....that was a lil weird to get used to wasnt it?! u got a lil extra time between blends sorta with serato. if u got ur cates done up right. i tried it for about a week and just imported the complete itunes library with it. damn....had tracks i was dyin to blend but couldnt until i hooked serato. anyhow....

192 sounds okay on small system or a really good system, but it still has its flaws, when playing out i always would hear a very very loud hi end to my sounds, something none of my records do... so i had to give up serato, if i was playing garbage music i would definitely switch to serato, but i care a lot about my records and love the way they sound (dirty and warm ) wouldn't trade it for anything in the world....

i have no gripes with anyone using serato, unless they completely bite my record selection......

how do you guys keep track of your music on that?

i mean , with records you know more or less what your goin to play next by feel RIGHT? with this TOOL how do you feel your crowd with out taken to much time to search your comp....do you orignize by a premix or what? i dont get it .

I always used to have a rough setlist worked out even with vinyl. You should always have your music arranged in a way that you know whats where anyways, regardless of what format you're using.
