Diggin is lookin through records unknown to urself.. takin chances and discoverin breaks.

We are not talkin about limiting ourselfs.. we're talking about picking sampling utube OVER records as an alternative is wrong.. still.. samplin u tube videos of other people showin theyre records they have "dug" for is bullsh!t.

Also.. that is not diggin. He was talkin like it was diggin its not.. even if u learn what has breaks through that then u go buy those records u have heard that is not diggin.. thats record shoppin..

As i said... as this is about, thought I better explain again as peeps so quickly scan over and not pick up the meaning of posts....

"Diggin is lookin through records unknown to urself.. takin chances and discoverin breaks."

This is the Crate diggers sections... all of a sudden peeps are gettin flamed for explainin what diggin is as toys dont get it and are talkin some bullsh!t.

As I said, Shaman quick to chat but I wanna see him back that up with skills.. especially as he comes with that "fire" aparently...

Also.. postin a beat is like givin away half a grand??? come on? pull ur head out the f**kin clouds u idiot. That shows u dont have a clue.. some idiot toy (directed at shaman before some fool reads it and assumes its directed him even after not payin attention to whats said)..

And its funny.. same guy who says he cant afford to dig, to risk a few $ on records as a trial and error (which all diggers do thats what diggin is), is the same guy who aparently sells beats for $500 each.. come on thats bullsh!t.. I spend 100's per month diggin, this month I spent over £700 ($1,395).. Yeah I sell the odd beat, for bit of money, smoke, equipment, more records.. whatever.. but even so I make a hell of alot more beats then I sell and anyone who sells beats knows for fact they do same.

This guys talkin sh!t.. its time to show and proove.. I already stepped up

i feel you complex but theres nothing that we can do to change it. digital jocks will always beleive that it's diggin BUT DIGGIN IS A PHYSICAL THING NOT A VIRUTAL THING. LOOKIN FOR BREAKS CANT BE SEEN IN A DIGITAL FILE INLESS YOU USE A SOFTWARE, WHEN DIGGIN FOR VINYL YOU CAN SEE THE BREAKS IN THE GRUV.

DIGITAL SEARCHING IS MORE COLLECTING WHAT OTHERS HAVE FOUND FOR YOU.

dont get me wrong i still use DIGTAL FILES from time to time ,mostly movie clips or news clips but it's not often.

so i guess all these records on my shelf is proof i don't dig? i don't take chances with jefferson starship, the earth band, cain & abel, and such? spending bill money for records isn't diggin to find something new? coOmplex you can...
*laughing* i'm not going there with you man. i don't have to prove anything to you. as far as posting beats, the only thing that's keeping me from blazing you like a blunt in the ashtray is the fact i'm in the process of getting a CD burner for my recorder!!!
you know what? why am i having a back & forth discussion with someone i can't see? whatever man... you win. happy?

btw,
i checked you out. now i'm impressed. the only ups you got on me man is that you deejay...you'll be hearing me soon.

Shaman ur words dont mean sh!t.. until u back them up with proof all u are is a sh!t talkin toy.

U talk all this sh!t like ur so good.. wheres ur music? u tellin me u dont even have 1 thing u can upload... I could upload hundreds and hundreds of beats now.. beats from a couple days ago to a few years ago.. and u tellin me u cant upload one?

And I didnt win the battle just because "u couldnt be bothered to step up".. i won because u couldnt step up.. otherwise u would have.

Plus u claim

ur mpc got audio outs.. ur pc got audio in.. whats stoppin u?

I put my beats onto this pc without burnin a cd, thats a lame excuse theres no excuses with this sh!t

the shaman wrote:the only ups you got on me man is that you deejay

Actually im not a dj, I used to dj a lil but that sh!t comes hand in hand with makin beats and diggin.. its skill I have which u dont, u cant use that as an excuse either... another thing that battlings about.. havin more skill then the other. Ur excuses hold no weight u just cant step

Idiot

I think Detroit hit the nail on the head here..

mistasmijen wrote:im so damn sick of people limiting themselves because its not "real hip hop"

(GO BACK AND READ MY POST..........NOTHING I SAID.....WILL LEAD U IN THIS DIRECTION!!!!)

Music is about evolution. it ALWAYS has been and it ALWAYS will be. why would you ever limit yourself from producing music that sounds right to you, and moves you in the way you would like to be moved?

(MY POST SAID DO U MORE THAN ONCE)

I thought you guys of all people would know that hip hop is about using what you have, to make something new. When hip hop first started, sampling from records and tapes was big because it was still a modern type of media.

(NO THATS NOT WHY ITS BECAUSE RECORDS PROVIDED DJ WITH LOTS OF MATERIAL AND IT STILL DOES TODAY.......THEY DID NOT USE IT BECAUSE IT WAS MODERN FOR THE TIME THOSE DJ LOVED RECORDS)

They didnt have the amazing opportunities that we have today. It would almost be a disgrace to those of hip hop past to NOT utilize everything we possibly can.

(I NEVER SAID LIMIT UR PRODUCTION....BUT THIS IS "CRATE DIGGIN" THE PRODUCTION FORUM IS ON ANDOTHER SECTION!!!!!! AND HOW WOULD I DISGRACE................
FLASH, HERC, BAM, CAZ, JAZZY JAY, CHARLIE CHASE, RIZ ETC BY CRATE DIGGIN AND FINDING NEW BREAKS????????????? THAT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE)

If you think digging on youtube is a shame, then i want all of you to stop using any DAW that wasnt around in the 80's-early 90's.

(I NEVER SAID THAT DIGGIN ON YOUTUBE WAS A SHAME...........
MY POINT IS THAT IT DOES NOT EXIST..............PERIOD...............)

AND ALSO CATS HAVE USED OLD MACS, COMMODORES, IBM, ATARI, TANDY'z ETC IN THE LATE 80s + 90s....THO MOSTLY FOR MIDI)..........

NO using fruity loops, cubase, garageband, and protools was barely there to.

(DO U EVEN KNOW HOW OLD CUBASE ACTUALLY IZ IT EVOLVED FROM.....CUBIT....ON ATARI IN THE LATE 80s.....KNOW UR HISTORY)

Also, you cant possibly be using the mpc1000!. That has a USB connection in the back! Not the 500 either.

(I USED TO USE THE MPC3000 TO DO MIDI DUMPS INTO SOUND FORGE 4 it was slow But In Concept NO DIFFERENT THAN USING USB TO TRANSFER)

Hell. If you dont get down on a mpc3000, 60, or 2000 you are NOT hip hop.

(WHAT ARE U SAYIN THERE ARE ALOT OF SAMPLERS SOME OLDER AS WELL)

Its ****. DO NOT LIMIT YOURSELF TO MAKING MUSIC. hell, ive even sampled drum breaks off of KFC chicken commercials.

(AND I SAID I SAMPLED VSTi, DVD AND OLD VHS)

now lets stop giving such a **** about the "hip hop image" and make some damn music..

(U REALLY NEED TO READ MY POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

-my 2 cents.

SORRY BUT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CRATE DIGGIN' AND BEATMAKING AND PRODUCTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LEARN THAT.............................

AND CRATE DIGGIN IS ONLY A LIMITATION IF UR A LIMITED DIGGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE LOTS OF RECORDS THAT I MAY NEVER SAMPLE AND USE TO MAKE A BEAT BUT..............................................

I LOVE RECORDS AND LIKE I SAID BEFORE THERE IS NOTHING WRONG OR LIMITED ABOUT THAT..................................

LIMITED..............

FUNK, JAZZ, ROCK, SOUND TRACKS, CLASSICAL, GOSPEL, HOUSE, SHOWTUNES, SPOKEN WORD, CHILDERNS RECORDS, FOLK, POP, DISCO, SOUL, OPERA, SOUND FX, LIBRARY, METAL, PSYC ETC.............

33,45,78 ETC................

FORM 1930 Till Today................and There Where Songs From the 20s That Where Later Pressed Up.....................

LIMITED????????? STOP......................

AND LETS THINK...........................

I HAVE MORE FREEWARE, SHAREWARE, DEMOS + BETAS, VST, VSTi, DX, DXi, REFILLS, SOUNDFONTS, ROYALTY FREE SAMPLE LIBRARIES, KITS AND PACKS, APPS ETC

THAT MOST PEOPLE HERE............................

AND I STILL LUV DIGGIN' WHY????????????????????????//

SIMPLE.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

...wait......wait...........................wait..............WAIT 4 IT.......................

BECAUSE THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAMPLIN' / BEATMAKIN' AND "CRATE DIGGIN'"

I CAN'T MAKE IT CLEARER THAN THAT............................

THIS AINT NO "LETS KEEP IT REAL CRAP"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THEZE ARE FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PERIOD..........................

YALL ARE TRIPPIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regardless of your feelings on what is/isn't digging, the fact of the matter is that you can not use mp3's or samples from youtube on an album or live because the distortion and loss of information from the sound compression screams through when played through a PA or when put in a mix with other high quality, lossless samples (like wavs recorded from a record or CD for example). It's not true that "most people can't tell the difference between mp3 and vinyl samples", they can, it's just that most people don't have the recording/engineering knowledge to pinpoint what is wrong with what they are hearing.

This whole thread is f*cking mute.

If you're on some broke-ass home made sh!t, but you'd get laughed out of any semi-professional venue or studio. But, NO, it's just not happening. Keep dreaming kiddies, but there's no such thing as a free lunch.

mpc4000xl wrote:128KB and 256 or 320 WHICH ACTUALLY APPROACHES CD QUALITY!!!!!!!!

You're completely right about the sound quality differential, but there can still be audible compression artifacts in 320KB mp3s. I was simplifying because I'm just trying to do a service and set beginners on the path of least resistance, you know, cut down on those headaches you get from learning lessons the hard way. If someone is thinking about sampling youtube seriously, they probably aren't thinking too much about audio fidelity (or bitrate!) and it's a helpful generalization to stay away from mp3's in my opinion.

This is really just my $.02, a guy who's studied audio engineering and learned a lot of lessons the hard way over 8 years of beat making.

this shyt is hilarious!

of course ripping youtube isn't digging - how or why would anyone say it is?

that doesn't mean you shouldn't sample it if you wanna.

gotta say i respect all the diggers - i think it's dope that y'all carry on doin
your thing in this day and age. that your love for the acetate circles keeps you
spending down to the last penny on the rare shyt you find...

but it's dumb to exclude any potential sample source.

scizzorhandz is on the money when he says:

diggin is one thing,

beatmakin is another.

the two ain't necessarily linked. i got mates who are massive audiophiles with
huge record collections and have no interest in sample based music.

me on the other hand... i got a handful of shytty vinyl that i spent probably
20 bucks on in total, and i make a fair few beats - mainly using sounds i create...

so maybe i lose cred in some people's eyes... maybe my audiophile mates
are wastin their money in some folks eyes...

point is... no reason to tear each other's arms off!
