Diggin' Documentaries

it's not about crate digging (or hip hop) but it's still about collecting vinyls.
it has been pretty difficult to find to download for quite a few years, but now you can find it on various sources, here is a preview:

it's one of my fav documentaries, it's more about the people who collect the vinyls and their obsession than the vinyls themselves.

among the interviewed collectors there are a few underground celebs: Don McKellar, Harvey Pekar and Bruce La Bruce

thats a nice vid alright...funny when the guy in the tracksuit asks him to name any k tel compilation and then he cant remember all of the tracks on it

They talk about their styles and approaches to beat making and digging. Ras G makes a mean beat (look out for his beat shed) and they have a smoke session together at the end. Seems like the producers have done a good job of keeping it off utube to sell the dvd. but I would recommend seeking out ras g's track if anything, he definitely did that on a 2xl. J-rocc uses a 2500

Good post. I've watched the video before and it was okay. I enjoy the King of the Beats video better though. Same concept. Set amount of money, make a beat from those records. Dope! If we could do something like that on here, it would be dope. Make people post their receipts and webcam videos. Lol.

Now that's a good idea! It would definitely be a huge challenge to make a track ONLY using the new records without supplementing with drum sounds, etc you already have on hand. Set amount of time/money/records is limiting but could be an inspiration to see what you can do with those limitations.

Japanese beat making documentary.

They all spend 1000 yen on records and after that they make beats from what they found.

Not the most exciting beat making documentary ever but it was interesting to see how the japanese do it

That was a good watch, especially seeing the finished tracks getting pressed onto dubplates. From vinyl...to vinyl never seen that on a diggin' documentary.

The last dudes beat which plays at around 30:00 and 35:00 goes hard, lovin it.

I rememer another documentry where 4 diggers did that too. They pressed the 4 beats on 4 records and designed a artistical cover and put each of the 4 back in the stack at the 4 different thriftshops they bought the originals. Such a dope idea.
