This comment is true for a big percentage of people out there with an MPC/SP or whatever. In my opinion, if you're grabbing a loop from a record and maybe adding some drums no matter how rare the record you think you resurrected you are not a Producer but more like a Beatmaker .
serioulsy there are some guys out there calling themselves Producers and really should stop. The title "Producer" should go to those who put in a lot more work and combined much more elements in to their music making it a "production" or something more than a loop with a little chorus. So it' all about the work that went in to it and the elements you personally brought in to the final product. If you personally played the bass line maybe added some keys etc I think it definitely is a Production. It's basically a semantics issue.
Unfortunatley , wether we like it or not, when you refer to someone who made the beat in hip hop/r&b & similar styles you say "Producer" because that's what everybody will understand.

Actually the term "Producer" has been wrongly used inside hip hip. We are all beat makers, not producers. It's just that most of us complete a whole track by ourselves, therefore we also call it producing. But nah, I wasn't saying that. All I'm saying is that 99% of the people who make dope beats don't have a clue about music theory and still they sound sick. It's just the genre or style cause it's based on sampling not composing bottom up. And that's what most outsides fail to understand and keep on insisting on the same shit.

This thread was a big waste of time, but still I kept reading.

It's cool that some of you guys can play like 15 instruments and can write full songs in right terms and all. I'm really impressed. I really am. I think there's like 10 Princes on this board.

I agree. I would definitely dog your ish. JK my man. You Already know what I think of your work. I really do agree w/ your statement. But you always have these "classic" (read: OLD) heads that try to get on cats that don't know theory. Now, I find that knowing theory is helpful, but the best music comes from the soul and gut, not the mind.
