The Diggin Blues.....

I was at Salivation Army last week, just diggin away. I found Dorothy Ashby's Afro Harping album and picked it up with haste (50 cents).

I forgot to look at the record, and it was scratched like crazy, made it unlistenable, let alone sampleable. Still, it sounds crazy, so i'm gonna get it on ebay or something.

I saw a copy of it goin for 100 something dollars, is it rare?

it's on verve label that label is old and has very great music, to find something on that label in VG+ EX NM- is rare, but look around if you found it at the thrift then you'll come across it soon enuff, don't give up and don't give in to EBAY Ebay sux ass

uhh, Afro-Harping was released on the Cadet label, it was re-issued on Verve.
If you have a clean OG copy, it can go for 30-80 easy.

dope dude! afro harping is really nice. don't worry you'll come across another one for a decent price, that copy'll just have to hold you over until you find another one.

i hit one of the thrifts around here earlier this week and came up with john klemmers fresh feathers, not rare at all, but it was still nm- still with the shrink intact. these records are always cool to find. just standard 70's jazz/fusion records that aren't readily available, ie the majority of the cti catalog and certain 70's blue note lp's, in great condition.

yeah, i forgot to mention that mine was on Cadet not Verve.

yeah, it's a really nice album. Reminds me of some David Axelrod, songs of innocence type thing. I got it on Cd. I love vinyl, but just being on vinyl doesn't make the music 5 times better for me, and hence mostly not worth 5 times the price.

THERES NO COMPARISON TO VINYL. more head room deeper bass that you can feel not metallic sounding high pitch sound

No doubt. Let me say again- I love vinyl, I just can't see, on my budget, swinging $100 bucks for an LP I already enjoy the music of from a CD. $30-40 maybe--if it was in GREAT condition.

There's just so much else out there to spend dollars on that it has to become a question of opportunity cost for me--ie. what worthwhile production gear can I not afford because of my $100/disk vinyl habit?

don't even worry about it dude

just because you don't buy $100 records, it doesn't mean that you don't love records as much as the people who do.

just think that there are people who buy the more expensive records and not even listen to them. as long as you're enjoying the music that you buy that's all you need to do.
