i thought quite a few of the sounds on the memory card that come with the 1000 were standard baile sounds - im sure some of the horns were at least.

it've not used the akai sounds since i first bought my 1k though so not sure.

True true, I need to know what kind of music they sample, the horns and other chops come from tango recordings i think, I dunno where they get the loud horns, i think there from samba, im not sure- lemme know

i think they sample a lot of older merenguez rather than samba. dont hold me to it though - not made any baile myself.

You mean "merengue" as in the Dominican music genre or is it something else?

i've seen it spelt a few ways, im not clear on which spelling is correct.
but yeah, i was referring to a genre of music thats fast, has horns, often vocals, most probably from dominican republic - i havnt heard much - only what i have on the compilation cd's my brother got me from a street vendor in peru.

Been a while since I looked at this thread and after doing some digging I have found the samples- you can pretty much just take the "Voltmix" and "Base tamborazao" off of youtube (the quality is a bit shitty I havent found mp3 versions floating around). The other samples they use a lot are traditional italian folk songs like (Tarantella) and anything heavy on accordion, (make sure you have your mute groups set up, this is essential to the genre) Then what they do is chop the horns at the beginning of the "Rocky" Theme (or any horn that is loud and abrasive-you can also layer them) I'm gonna post some files including fills and sound fx up soon so you can get your own Baile Funk program running. I also have a mix ive been recording live on the 500. Hope that was helpful

Sorry for digging out old threads...

But this video could be interesting for you:

Seems there is some interesting stuff going on in brazil, anyways... much live MPC work inside the clubs. Booties whippin' etc. etc.

However i'm not too much into that baile funk stuff.. Lyrics suck, beats often produced amateurish... Then again, im no gang dude living in those favelas. Cumbia is a different story, though!!!

Well, i know where those guys get their samples from AND - digging through that material brought me some funky delicacies i plan to mashup in some sort of beat tape soon. 8)
