sample libraries

What do the vinyl junkies out there think about using drum samples from sample libraries? Have you done it? what was your experience with it? If not, is there a particular reason why you wouldn't?

See I don't understand this. I don't limit my production. If it sounds dope I'll flip that shit. Why the hell would it matter if the sample was from vinyl, wav archive, sample library, or a damn 8 track. Do producers get off on telling people "Yeah, all those samples are straight from vinyl...". IMHO if the samples dope it's dope no matter where the hell you got it.

there's nothing wrong with it , i just don't do it. i rather use a sample from a real drum machine, then weak it to how i like it.

but i just sample my drums from vinyl .

Vinyl is different. It's sound/color is warmer, however it is not THAT big of a difference. It has a "thicker" sound because not audio data is lost converting it because it is analog.

Sample libraries come to my rescue all the time as I generally don't sample from copyrighted material that often, but that's just a personal choice and nothing against those who do.

In saying that, if I had to rely on vinyl for all my samples it would be very limiting and time consuming for the type of tunes I make. I haven't got the patience to be skimming through records to find a snare when I have 1000's on my hard drive!!

Well said I'm right there with you ! Nada nea nada of hesitation .

me, when I started I felt the same way, take anything that I want to. But later, when I started getting some aspirations about releasing music and became aware of all the intellectual property litigation stuff going on, I started to have some concern to avoid expensive and time consuming sample clearance and/or prosecution scenarios.

I still do sample copy protected stuff for some projects, but I often keep that distinct from stuff I do with no copy right violating samples. For instance, my Blake Brillo persona uses no copy protected samples, but DJ Plan A will flip anything he feels like. hahah

Personally I think I'd rather download the mp3 of a break I wanted and chop that up then use a bunch of pre-chopped shit named dillasnare or rapkickdeep with no reference to where it came from. It's funny about the copyright too because probably 99% of hiphop drum libraries have copywritten material in them. It's a joke. Just make your own library, it will take time but at least it will be yours.

make your own libary but id personally make it from a pre made libary that wasnt focused on hip hop

i like wax better because analog is more accuarate...lots more warmth

plan a ur sample heavy stuff is better then ur sample free stuff

hey thanks for the feedback jpeg. All the stuff up is a bit out-dated. I'm keeping the new stuff pretty under-wraps until the album is done. Cheers.
