what u reckon i went thru a phase of looking for records still respect the music im down to about 100 records all the shit i got is shit i like and/or has samples.

most of the stuff i sample is tv, youtube, blogs and stuff i downloaded. thinking about the credit crunch i would love to have the money back spent on all them worthless records.

cos out of all the shit i bought over the past 5 year (been diggin for 5) only 20-30% was worth having

Hey bruh... all diggers go through it. I don't know how many times I've spent good cash on 10 - 20 records and found sh!t on them.
You got to work with what you got. Flip that sh!t, reverse it, chop it up into microns, add some effects, silence sections of it... do what you got to do to make it work and be different.

Not knowing how or what to dig for is a waste of cash & time. You obviously weren't any good at it, so thank you for abandoning it.

"most of the stuff i sample is tv, youtube, blogs and stuff i downloaded." = DEFINITION OF WACKNESS

What are you even doing in the "Crate Diggers" Forum?

I feel you, but get more creative with your records that don't have obvious samples.

There was a time in my digging life where I considered a Mozart violin record useless. Now, I don't use it but know where things like that are in my crates in case I'm working on a beat that needs a lil violin. And since it's on vinyl, it's easier to find and match up a sample to my beat. The pitch shift helps me get it in speed and pitch, and I can manually play it in with a scratch.

I do agree that e-digging is underrated by some...

i made some good beats while diggin, ill occasionally check record stores if im out of town but i dont go out hunting every week.

i find better shit on-line some rare shit that i dont see when im out, plus alot of them 70's album or rock albums may have one or two hot sounds to use but i dont like the rest of the album so why buy?

gotta rate mf doom showing that u can use anything sampling off tv, radio, youtube, my own records. but mostly mp3 off blogs or collection i got from other peeps, i know i alos heard madlib saying he samples anything tv or some sample comps where ever the sound is that what im on nowadays.

at the height of my digging must of had between 300 - 400 records but condensed it down to 100 as im finding more interesting sample worth material on-line so my collection on vinyl is pure only shit that i like to listen too and or has lots of records that i can go back to again and again and re-flip.

rather then me having 300 records most of which i dont like the sound of or only has 1 or 2 things to sample.

using online sources is dope cos its endless supply rather then me being limited to the shit i can afford or find.

but before i trade all the record that aint up to par i try and listen to em over agaion at different times of day, plus i try and flip sounds off it, it i find that every time i think the album wack then i know to get rid of it.

I stopped buying expensive records, I now wait for my opportunities and stockpile records.

The Music Exchange here in KC was one of THE biggest music collections in the world. The owner died and his wife decided to sell all of his records (over 250,000) for a dollar each. I was like 10th in line and got 250 solid, good condition, non-dollar bin records for $250.

So, yeah - even if they only had one or two "hot sounds" on them, it was so worth it. And only with vinyl. Just wait for opportunities like that, craigslist, storage auctions, etc...

Yeah, I think this section of the forum has turned me in to an angry person. :( It's just that some of these threads are like going in to a MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) forum and saying "I like to drink and then drive my car. But it's because it would take too long if I had to wait for the bus or call a cab and I just like to do it."

The whole art of digging is finding things no one else has before, so using stuff someone has already red flagged as good material on a blog isn't very true to the spirit.

I just can't see someone who has only amassed 100 or 300 records feeling that they understand 'digging' to such an extent that they damn it. If you're expecting to find tight drum breaks on every record you buy, on more than one track -- then you've missed the point. Still, there's nothing I buy that A) doesn't have something I can use on it, and B) That I enjoy listening to as a whole.

If you're hitting 10 to 12 duds every go you simply don't have the musical knowledge to pull it off yet, so maybe you do need a little hand holding through compilations and such to teach you what is what (Ultimates did this for me back in the day), but at some point you have to return to the roots of it all.

everything u got someone else has found and used dudes spend they life copping big records record dealers and drop big cash onrecords when u consider that their job is to dig for rare recordsand find the most usable breaks.

so u aint gonna out dig them dudes like kon and amir are paid to find records for producers they have everything.

ill take advantage of the knowledge of peeps like them and soulman, supreme and jake one, madlib pete rock. as they have been doing this for years.

alot of them rock records might have the odd break but the whole record i dont wanna listen too so i shrunk my collection down so it only consists of shit i like to listen to and that has samples on it.

so i mostly download as i have no intention of listening to them wack records but still wish to take advantage of the odd track with sick samples.

also i dont really for drums and yeah u can flip anything but the goal is to expose my self to as much high quality shit to sample that i would not be able to afford even if i found the record whiel out diggin.

so i still rate record and like em but i dont see no reason to spend my cash on it i wanna just get my sounds and make some ill beats and leverage peeps that been doing this longer then me.

why waste time and cash when higher quality stuff it available on-line plus as long as u flip the sample in a different way thats dope then its all good.

If you love music, you will have no problem paying for a hard copy...

If you are in the game to make HoTfYaHbEaTz4dAyZ, then continue d/l'ing mp3s.

Real heads know the deal...

Digging takes time, patience and dedication. Seems like the new wave of producers wants to push one button and have a hit. I have been digging for YEARS and never had this problem. True not EVERY record has something dope on it but if your nasty with your production skills all you need is a few seconds of something hot. There are so many tools available to get busy I cant understand how digging could be a "waste of cash".
