Don't you just hate it when.....

.....you find a dope, maybe obscure, sample that you think nobody else has used, create a beat.....and then play it to someone and they're like, "Yeah, Pete Rock used that."

Happens to me all the f*cking time! Anybody else get that?

ha! when i first started out i'd use funk/rarities compilations for digging, and wonder why every time i made a beat people would say "didnt (producers name) use that?"

just keep digging, maybe the samples arnt as obscure as you think?

edit: or maybe you can flip it a little harder?

haha thats why i always serch up on google the name of the track i found the sample in, if its been sampled by a big artists it usually comes up! if not your chances it no major cat has dominated it

Next we will have another thread about sampling MP3's and our thoughts on it. Where to find records. Who sampled this or that record, soundclip or youtube video. & finally if it's ok for one to sample in such and such way. :evil: :evil: :evil:

i usually try to flip some less recognizable stuff. but at this point in the game i don't really think it matters. people are sampling off the classics again and new audiences are listening. if you don't flip those records cuz you think they are sacred or something, somebody else will. so it doesnt really matter to me what anybody else thinks.

in the state that HIP HOP is IN ive changed my mind on ensuring not to flip classic samples,

But i Think IT has to be Flipped so hard that you cant really tell that this sample is from that one track..

i hate it when people use the same sample of a known hip hop track And flip it in a simular way

know thats disrespectful and cheap!

Anyway, the point I was eventually going to make with this thread, is: what with vinyl being a finite resource, there are limitations to what "dope", "rare", "obscure" records people can find that haven't been used before.

Enough crate diggers have been buying up alot of dope records over the years - in most cases, they were finding and buying records when I was still wearing Pampers. I only started digging about 9 years ago, and I live in the UK. It's not like we have a gamut of amazing funk records like in the US.

Even digging thru "dollar bins" or charity shops, all I seem to find is Barry Manilow!

So, it's not like I don't put the effort in - in fact, didn't I kick this thread off saying that I had been searching for something obscure and funky, only to have it spotted by someone else (who's knowledge of hip hop is better than mine)?

Eventually, when records stop being pressed (which I think will happen at some point soon), then guys like us will suffer. Already the price of vinyl has been increasing - rare sh*t seems to be getting more and more expensive (crazy eBay auctions anyone?).

Finding something, sampling it, and then discovering it's already been used already happens - hell, I found out Madlib used a sample which had already been used. Didn't even flip it all that differently. What a disappointment, Madlib is one of my heroes!
