Reissues Vs. Original

some of these original vinyl are hard to find, while the reissues are bountiful. other then the collectability of the original pressings, are there sound differences from reissues and the og? i'm not talking about static, or pops, but talking about the actual sound source. usually the reissues i noticed are pressed by different record labels then the original.

well if it is a reissue then it may be pressed in 120 g vinyl which is heavier and makes it hard for scratchin

Yes there are sound differences between the og and the reissue. It depends on what source material was used for the reissue - was it the original masters? Was it remastered/remixed? Have the masters been destroyed years ago and so they used an original copy of the lp to master the reissue from?

All of this will affect how the reissue sounds, not to mention the actual maufacturing/pressing of the reissue. Some reissues sound on par (some can even sound better) than the og, while many sound inferior. Every reissue is a different story. And that's not even getting into bootlegs - which I assume you are not worried about, just legit reissues, right?


However, a vinyl reissue will almost always sound better than an mp3. So don't sweat it too much!

It really depends on reissues. Some reissues sound better than the original, due to the mastering jobs, quality of pressing and vinyl etc.
Some of reissues are mastered from vinyl (like Ultimate Breaks & Beats series), so sound quality is pretty bad.
