A trip to NY

Hey Guys, I'm heading to New York City soon and was wondering if anyone on here has been or lives in New York to give some friendly advice.
I'm looking for some places to crate dig and also if there is any pawn or second hand shops for music gear.
Or some names of stores for me to check out online. I'm not asking for anyone to do the research for me, but to throw some ideas and to point me in the right direction.

NYC in general is pretty overpriced... as far as finding cheap used gear goes... if you see some crackheads somewhere, scope out the pawn shop in that area.

i been to NY in august and visited Rogue Music on 30th Street, on the other side of the street, maybe 2-3 buildings away is a huge store where there where hundreds of synths and a shitload of MPCs.

Also take a trip to control in brooklyn, they only have modular synth, but really nice guys and lots of fun.

record shopping..... check 'the thing' in brooklyn. i believe its 1006 Manhattan ave. google it. they prolly got more than a milliion records and they are all $2 a pop. make sure to bring a dust mask and gloves.

gear shopping in ny is hit or miss.

The Thing is cool to check out just because of the stacks but you'll really be hard pressed to find anything good, they started selling the better stuff to dealers, etc. They're $2 records so you get what you pay for

in that same hood (which is walking/biking from me) are about 3 - 4 really good stores that basically beat out any store in nyc now that all got priced out long ago. check out co-op 87, academy annex (very large), and record grouch, and permanent records. there are also a ton of others in different parts of brooklyn, but those are all in a small radius. anything left in the city is very expensive apart from maybe a-1, annex and a few others. most places are tiny

-That would be the famous Armen's who you see selling $3000 sp12000's etc. Though they do have a ton of stuff and some old New stock, nice condition stuff, some oddities, but you won't find a bargain.

theres also a record store in hoboken in NJ that i just found. its on washington st, i believe. not to cheap but hoboken is a dope spot so its worth checking out.

Anyone know about Swap Meets or Flea Market in NY/NJ?

I've heard about Collingwood in NJ, but It's a bit far for us to travel.

I've checked this place "Armens" online. The place looks awesome, like a kid in candy land. But the prices are out of this world. I may check it out

Thanks again guys. I've scoped out the place you have suggested. I've also got on my list of Guitar Centre. I've heard a few people on here talking about this. Got the places mapped out and ready to go.

I know i keep asking but anyone know anything on flea markets or swap meets? One of the guys coming with me is in to collecting video games. Would also be good for me for records. Any ideas?
