Yo anyone sample off of cassette tapes? i've started doing it cuz it's cheaper than vinyl and i don't have a turntable.
the sound quality is usually surprisingly good, there's some noise but it's not distracting. sometimes the tapes jitter a bit and pan weirdly which can be a cool, unexpected effect. if the little felt pad under the tape is loose the music sometimes sounds dull, low-pass-filtered out of nowhere, which can also be kind of cool.
anyway the main problem i've come across is availability of good tapes... not that much great music was ever even released on cassette, and on top of that even thrift stores are dumping their tapes cuz no one wants them. i've found a couple great tapes but mostly crap. some are mislabeled too, they'll just have like some home recording of a guy speaking chinese for an hour
but yeah anyone dig through tapes?
