Collection Lacks Vibes, Hammond Org & Vocal Stuff

Been collecting for a while but I have pretty eclectic taste so I've managed to completely miss out on vibraphones, hammond organ players and some of those old soul sistas.

Any short list of musicians/artists I should keep my eyes peeled for? Just looking to get a decent start on these holes in my (growing) collection.

I am not above getting dusty, so don't even go thurrrr

Vibes- lionel Hampton is a famous swing era vibraphonist, Also Roy Ayers who is often sampled (and is dope as ****) plays vibes as well. Modern Jazz quartet is later era (50s) cool jazz. I think Gary burton is a fusion vibes player. I think she plays mirimba and xylophone (not vibes but similar) but ruth underwood is unreal. IDK who else she plays with but shes on a lot of Zappa's late 60s-70s LPs

Organ- this is easy to come by...Jimmy smith's root down album is sick! So many great jazz organists I litterally do not know where to start, I'll shout out Jimmy and Sun ra and leave it there....rock organ: Traffic, Allman Bros, Santana, Grateful dead in 1972 and 1979-90, oh and some modern folks: Medeski Martin and Wood and Soulive

Soul singers, Betty Davis (Miles wife not the actress), lyn collins, Janis Joplin, I am sure you can prob get a better list of soul singers etc by searching...

Definitely appreciate the reply, Doc. I have no idea how I completely forgot about Sun Ra and Ayers. Cool to see Madeski, Martin & Wood mentioned. They are the first in a few of my playlists.

For vibes, check out Stark Reality, Cal Tjader and my personal favorite, Mulatu Astatke.

Hammond, check out Lonnie Smith, Henry Cain and any RnB of 1965 to 1970.

Vocals, I don't know, never thought about beefing up that section.

yeah Gary Burton is one to watch on the vibe. dude was pretty ill. invented that 4 mallet technique!

Hammond.....pick up all those $1 cheese records. there is hammonds and shitty organs all over them. Groove holmes and jimmy smith tho.

Soul singers, have a crack at Roberta Flack and Shirley Bassey, not huge soul singers (well Roberta is more than Shirley) but both have amazingly powerful voices.

I have a Lonnie record that I absolutely adore. Been thinkin' about buying a few more of his! Thanks Ill & Tomby for more suggestions.

they are always full of hammond hahahahaha

$1 bin cheese is fine by me. If they are terrible records then they can be used for highly destructive avant-garde art projects.

Sh*tty news though - found out my most recent long-term ex works at my digging spot. Pretty sure I will be hard-pressed to get my discount or even feel comfortable there anymore. Ah well, looks like I will be paying premium prices to stay drama-free now. F*ckin' dumb.
