I think some places they fit and some they don't. I know milk crates in my area are too small to fit records. But in other states they do. I knew this guy from cali and he used to get milk crates from where ever he could for his vinyl. I just figured different distributors use different crates. Anyway, too much talk about milk for a vinyl forum.
If you want that sort of thing, you're bound to find something that'll do the same ish from that place home depot or some shit like that. ain't free like crates, though.

BUY milkcrates?

Yeah, back in the day records fit perfect in the crates - and they were square.....if you can find a real old one, you'll see. At a certain point, I think they figured out that people were stealing them to store records (this is back when records were still the main deal.)
They started making them more rectangular, so that records only fit long ways, and there's a lot of extra dead space after you put your 12"s in.
Some places even make them square, but smaller than 12".
Fuuk it. The rectangular ones work anyway. Most of the ones I got are black too...perfect low profile for the club.

we should highjack milk truks and spill the milk into the streets in retaliation, but on a serious note my grandma use to make tomato sauce in my house so i got the card board boxes that the tomatoes came in,pretty sturdy and works good

LOL :D
Yell i would buy them. LOL LOL
But I used ATA anvil cases when i spin out, but at home i have shelves. But if you have a hard time finding milk cases that fit, it would make sense to buy a few. Plus if you go to record conventions you can't sale records in a crate that don't fit.

Also, be careful about buying crates. Most of the ones that you can BUY are just made of plastic. They tear, and they're too flexible.
The ones that you jack from the market are all reinforced with metal on the inside.

as far as i can tell milk crates are always too small - maybe from when they changed gallon jugs a few years back so they used less plaztic?

but the knockoff storage crates you can buy at walmart and whatnot are always large enough.

this link is even better....same place, but crates specifically meant for records.

I swear by these! seriously you can be el cheapo, but these crates have made my life easier. The handles dont hurt, they fit perfect so nothing is gettin bent, and you can stack them any which way, like 5 high!

peace

apparently this is the right size for records:

http://www.ikea-usa.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=12&langId=-1&catalogId=10101&productId=11499

they also have them in 5x5 models. i've been rolling with crates until they broke under the weight....

i really want just some modular wooden crates i can stack and make shelves with. but this'll have to do i think.

I found out they were too small too, last summer. I was workin in this warehouse and i grabbed some milkcrates i found. When i got em home the shit wouldnt fit at all.

I go around behind businesses still and i find good ones sometimes. But you gotta look for the ones that are rectangul, not square. The squares ones are usually too small.
