the 45 will probably sound a bit better than the lp as "it's a new day" is the last track on the a side of the lp and as a needle gets toward the the centre of a record the sound gets worse.
i would just get the reissue 45 or try and find the reissue double lp.

i believe the us 45 is styrene.
i have the french pressing which is a beautiful pressing quality. but i rarely play it.
quite happy with the remastered cd. and it has extra tracks.
i count this lp as one of the best soul records ever. every track is a masterpiece.
i don't care how it bangs, i'm just glad i own it.
