getting rid of needle static/hiss

any tips? im samplin directly to mpc

sometimes i use filters, depending on the sample, it usually helps a bit, but still its noticable

how or what is the proper way to minimize this?

pops are fine, i figured out how to get rid of those, just the hiss/constant static

im using a diamond tip needle. its in great condition.

this is really only key with those quiet records, as the louder ones, the hiss hides in there.

You could load the sample into SoundForge tools such as Smooth/Enhance, EQ, etc. OR another cool trick is to turn the TREBLE all the way down. If you have a DJ mixer, there will most likely be a TREBLE knob on it. If you don't have a DJ mixer, than you can get a Stereo Receiver (Stereo Receiver's have TREBLE knobs), connect that to the turntable, the turntable to the mixer, the mixer to the MPC. It's that easy. The best choice would be the DJ mixer, because there is less stuff to connect and saves you more room in your studio/room.

You tried cleaning them with something like GrooveGlide? That stuff works pretty well, but some records are burned to the point that you can't get ride of all the noise.

yeah i EQ it a bit doing itm i turn the highs down a bit

ive used some editing tools in adobe audition, but sometimes they alter the sound a bit,

i'll try that grooveglide, or similar product

I use GrooveGlide. It's pretty good. Like was said though sometimes a record is so worn out you will always here that.

groove glide, good needle, good cable connections, direct connect to mpc, and a LOW PASS filter after its sampled.

in Cool Edit/ Adobe audition

there is under the "Effects" menu, an option called "noise reduction"

choose that, and from the menu choose "remove hiss and crackle".

It does a good job of removing it, but sometimes you have to run it through 2-3 times before it gets clean enough to use.

Both are packed into the noise reduction plugin.

SILICON SPRAY baby but imnot sure if itll **** you record so sample straight away clean the record well be4 you put on the silicon and that needle but hey soundin dirty is all part of samplin the Grimes just gonna keep growing as time grimes on (times grimie)

Where can I get that Noise Reduction plug-in. I have Sound Forge 6.0

Take a damm bath with your records kid...

If you dont care about the label do it, but if you do just be carefull...

Use a solution of Rubbing alcohol and water and a Tooth brush...
The soft bristle tooth brush..

Rubbing alcohol dissolves the grime

Works all the time..

Records where made to be cleaned...
I can go into a basement and find a old 78rpm record torn to shit...
But if you take the time to work wit the record...
U will have a static clean hiss free record...
The only records this wont work on are scratched records...
Worn records Ive had scratch records so worn out the needle wouldnt stay in the groove..

So thats my story and Im stickin to it.
