Ok, I was wondering if anyone could straighten this out for me 
Youve probably heard Redmans "Tonight's da night". On every reliable site Ive checked, it says that Erick Sermon (who produced it) sampled Raydio's (Ray Jr. Parkers band..) "Tonights the night". If you listen to Raydio's track, you clearly recognize elements used in Redmans tune. However, there is a compilation series called Soul Beats, and on vol. 4 there is a track (skit it says, no artist mentioned...) called "Tonights the night". This skit is identical with the beat used for Redmans tune, only its a little bit slower.
Here comes the question: if Raydio's tune is the one sampled for Redmans tune, then Sermon has done much more than just cutting out a loop. Infact, he's done quite a descent job chopping and putting together the samples. But what is this track on the Soul Beats compilation then? Is it the people behind the compilation who put it togheter? If so, they must have been thinking the exact same thing as Sermon, beacause the two beats are identical!! Also, at the end of the sample (I haven't heard the whole tune, only a sample from an internett site..) of the Soul Beats tune, some "scary" vocals kicks in (kinda hard to tell if it is a male or female, or both..). The lyrics go like this; "tonight's the night, the time is right..".

Could it be that Sermon in fact, didn't sample Raydio, but a different version of the same song? I know that Herbie Hancock was involved with Raydios tune, and it appeared on both Raydios "Two places at the same time" from 1980, and on Herbies "Magic Windows" from 1981. Ive only heard the version on Raydios album, and was assuming that the version on Herbies album was the same. Maybe it isn't and that the one on Herbies album is the one that Sermon sampled, and that appears on the Soul Beats vol. 4 ??
