what up fellas aquik question , i'm rearranging my records, just curious how you guys have your libary set up, i got all my 12''s starting from the bottom, starting with hip hop and r&b,from lowest bpm to highest, then house ,techno,downtemp,d&b from lowest to highest bpm, now my albums i just spearated them to funk, soul, jazz,olskopol, is my main sack then hip hop and r&b then house techno downtemp, then spanish, then kids ,speaches, obscure , then stuff like 40's music , and so on ,


i'm just wondering how to put them , i want to put them on my rack under my t.t.'s





or what do you guys suggest


p.s. excuse the mess still trying to set up my studio and get my records so i can just point and say it's there or look over there you know.

All I gotta say is those square crates are the shyt.

Those ones are too small though. If you want to use them you need to stick them in slanted like that. I had some crates like that but I didn't want to risk **** up a record cause of the tight fit.

Now I just steal those rectangular ones from Safeway. I like those ones better.

oh yeah, it would be better if it was a perfect fit.

yo Ede thats a pretty impressive collection ya got yaself there. I know what ya saying when ya want to find a record quick. I reckon the system ya got sounds good, damn most cats wont bother sorting from bpm.Once its set for a while ya start to know where sh!t is anyway...

Top shelf - Disco and Soul LP's grouped by label with disco 12"s grouped by BPM.
2nd row- Jazz grouped by label along with sample albums (kids records, music sound tracks... )
3rd - Vocal House music by BPM
4th - House music Tracks by BPM
Bottom row - Hip hop and Reggae LP's, 12"s by label or BPM

e.d.e ...... what is the 12" on Sleeping Bag in the front of the second picture? That is one of my favourite labels.

My vinyl collection is mainly house & disco 12"s. I keep the two seperate but there are always things on the dividing line that I make agonising descisions about which they are .... mainly that mid-'80s minimal NY sound that was obviously influencing what was going on in Chicago just before the first wave of Chicago house records.

Also, I keep things alphabeticaly by how I remember them, so that could be artist, label or producer.

Maybe i should start separating mine like that too.Genre as opposed to just keeping them in alphabetical order because that's i do it now.

yeah i know those square ones are sht but they still hold records, i use to use them for gigs but all my crates are tideup to the wall, on each side of the wall there is an eye loop screwed into the wall and tide with a rope going through each crate then all the crates are tiestraped together, this is my earthquake proofing , i take care of my records before my family, my wife gets upset but she knows whats up,

my two rows that are filled are all 12"s my albums are on the floor , i think i will try the alphabetical order for my albums, most of the ones on the floor will go undr my tables where my keyboard is thats my sample area
i got four decks but i will only use two, dont have space for the others yet, like i said my studio is still underconstruction,

featherboy - that sleeping bag record is a 12' of space is the place, it didnt come with the original cover but i got tracks on sleeping bag woth that cover mostly 80s hinrg freestyle.

yeah i try not to limit mymusic to one style theres to much out there to listen to all though i love acid house and earlie 80s hip hop,
but i have a bunch of 70s classic rock , and everything else as you can see

yeah dont limit youself
most of my stuff is in good to very good condition too only some stuff is really tore back, but i keep those so i can find them later.

I keep mine separated by genre. Hip hop and club sections are sorted by BPM. Funk and jazz sections are sorted alphabetically. Rock and odd stuff are just thrown in the crates at random.

It's not quite an exact science though.

I just alphabetized my funk and jazz, and when it comes to making tracks on MPC, its so much better to know exactly where that certain record or break is. I recommend it.

yeah it's the VS880expanded i got logic for it too that phatz sent me but it looks like i dont have room for my computer, 9i figure something out one of these days,
i'm busy bpmin records right now to add any more equipment what i got up is doind it for now so i dont fiend and for get the sht i learned in the pass months

oh on that vs i had the power converter changed on it about a year ago so it runing tip top, one more paice of equipment that i love.


itchy i hear you on the separated by genre thats what i do too but i actually mix my hip hop R&B club stuff the bpm's pretty much keeps them separate for me,

the funk jazz and rock and evrything you use to sample is where i'm stuck at but yeah you guys may be right i think is easier to to alphabetize them, but the thing is that i also use some of those records to spin so i get kinda lost on that tiip....

I use the 840ex.Still haven't figured out half the suff i can do on there. But what's the difference with the 880ex?Your's has a scsi drive i'm sure but what else.
