i just copped this late 60s record of his titled "drums, drums, drums!" - tight, tight shyt! long jazzy breaks, single hits, all kinds of sounds.... very very very dope! i'm telling you, look out for that name!


the best part is this.. the record was seriously warped.. the dealer was asking for $30 for it, and you know me, i ain't paying that kind of money for damaged goods. so - thanks to some swift finger movement and some replaceable price tags i ended up paying a total of $1 for it :twisted:

and thanks to the stove i got it bent back enough for it to play!

yay!

the king of the surf drums. He's got tons and tons of dollar bin material out there, and almost everyone of his records has some hard hitting drums. Though many breaks clock in at around 190 bpm.

I got one of his records too. There aren't any usable breaks on there cause it's that old school rock and roll timing, but the drums sound grimey, nice to be chopped into one shots.

I have "Beat That **** Drum", and "Rebirth of the Beat."
ONE is right - good for chops.
I've only heard of one of his albums that has a useable break on it.

Another great surf drummer was Beach Boy Dennis Wilson. Check out "Denny's Drums" from the "Shut Down Volume 2" album.



Well done Cheech ...... this is probably the first Crate Digging thread that is actually about crate digging this week!!!

I have a pretty crazy Buddy Rich LP, where he battles with Tabla master Alla Rakha. It's one of my more prized records. (not the most rare or expensive - I just dig it.)
