I'm fed up!

Every time I go to a thrift store I always find the same old garbage. I rarely ever find any good funk, soul, or jazz. A good record comes in probably every 1-2 months, which sucks! I would go to a record store, but it costs too much. Then again, at least when you go to a record store, you know your going to always find something new. I don't what the hell is wrong with me!? Is it that my knowledge of records is weak, is it my record budget, am I low on inspiration, or is it just me? Some body please help me.

rrrr dude!! dont worry ...... there is not a single reason why, though here are some things I do...when it comes to breaks...

I listen to alot of radio stations that play old skool stuff, funk, jazz etc. take notes make phone calls on tracks u like most.

I go looking for charity shops and all dat and just buy everything, i even haggle them for a best price, we all god budgets man...

When you do find a good records store, form good business relationships withe the store owner. They like regulars and if they know what you like they will either help you get it or hold it for you.

The more you listen to music and read about the artists, what instruments thay play, how they play, who they play with etc, the ore ya knowledge increases. it takes time but after time you can say to a shop keeper i require a such a such a style and he can take you to that section.

i know this for sure you dont wanna waste your money on crap. many times i have spent hundreds on crap i would never even listen to let alone sample. but listening to them today with a updated ear on music, I can hear stuff in the music that makes good hip hop joints...

also the and the best thing to do is dont force it, let the luck or vibe of music find you. family and friends who know u like music and know u make it too, should know what you require. like my mum, she comes home everynow and then with a old skool soul album of people i never heard of, and garenteed there be a break in there i can use.

another tip, I am not one who likes programs like Kazza or SoulSeek, but i find them useful when I cant find stuff...

I feel your pain. Digging is a B**** But I still love it. If making music was easy I wouldn't do it. I enjoy the challenge. Just remember that nobody is forcing you to make music...so just have fun and keep on, keepin on. Peace.

Find more thrift stores. Does the record shop you go to have a 50 cent section or something? The one I go to has a huge section. You can get one for 50 cents. 5 for $1.99. Or if you buy 10 you get another 10 free. Be patient too. I feel the same sometimes.

There must be some good samples on those wack records. I know I will get ridiculed but when I sample I try to stay away from jazz and funk records. I always buy junk from dollar bins and stuff for 25-50 cents at the flea market. I splurge on the $10 and higher records if it something I enjoy listening to.

if you dont find anything in that store move to the next one thats diggin not shoppin at one store.

of course you going to see the same records!

move to the next hole YO.

just keep in mind what you found there; and dont for get it's there( the store that is).

you need to keep moving; check what other stores have they may have better deals like spectre said you can't beat that yo,MORE FOR YOUR BUCK

dude don't limit yourself to thrift shops and record stores talk to people. I make it known to everyone I meet that I have a deep interest in old vinyl I recently did some work for this guy and through conversation I told him I like old records and just so happened that the guy that he bought his house from was a DJ in the 60s and 70s and when he sold the house he left everything so this guy had a garage full of records that have been sitting for years 10 to be exact and he had no interest in them when I was done installing his air conditioner he handed me a check and he told me to pull up to the garage in back of his house when he opened the door I almost blew a nut. he told me to take them all. OG blue note prestige CTI groove merchant I found stuff that I have only seen pictures of online boxes and boxes of 45s funk northern soul(just found out what that was) rnb you name it it was pretty amazing to find that many records in one spot in mint condition except for the cob webs and the mouse turds the vinyl was immaculate. I filled up the back off my ford one ton van with albums and 45s dude you'd be surprised what you can find out with a little conversation. Closed mouth don't get fed ask for what you want
