Just out of curiosity...

How many of you have tried to recreate the exact beat a big name producer has created using the same sample? Do you think doing this gives you any insight as to how or what or even why????

i've wanted to try this but never get around to doin it cause i get to caught up on making my own sht, but i think it would be a good idea just to see how it sounds and to learn some tricks to get close to the sound your tryin to create.

but like i said i've never done it ...

I've done it several times -- its a great exercise. Sometimes you learn a ton of new things, sometimes you realize how sh*tty someone is that you admired. Idols may tumble down....

I recreated Show & AG's "Next Level" the primo version for an emcee I work with..... he wanted it for a mixtape track kind of to pay homage.... that one was pretty easy though.

I used to do it back when I had Cool Edit Pro. I'd be digging, find an original, and just make it back to have the instrumental...Done a few with the MPC too.I think it's fun....But, I haven't done this in like a year. I kinda feel like it's a way of retracing the steps of dope producers...Like I said in some other thread, if you know where you came from, you know where your going....PEACE...
