Brelt drive turntables.

Whenever I look in those audiophile magazines, it seems like they only rock these odd expensive looking belt drive turntables. Does a good belt drive turntable give better soundquality?

I think belt drives are less expensive to make then direct drive, so if you're not gonna be scratching on it, then you don't need to waste the extra production costs (and therefore retail costs) on direct drive, you can instead focus on the sound qualities. I'm pretty sure direct drive only came about as a result of DJ's scratching/mixing, seeing as you don't need it to just listen to music.

my guess is that with these higher end tables the manufacturer focuses more on the output and sound quality then the torque, start-stop time, ect so they use the belt drive because it's less expensive.

I think those high quality belt drives actually create less motor noise in the platter than the direct drives......but unless every link in the chain of your stereo equipment is audiophile quality, you won't really hear that.

If you're out to DJ, avoid belt-drives like crack.

Word??? I don't hear a thing when my Tech1200's are spinning. I was under the impression that direct drive tables turned the platters with strong magnets so what motor noise are you talking about?

electric motors run off of magnets.
