What are some good scratch records (which do you recommend?), and what's a good scratch mixer. I have been looking on some Vestax mixers, they should be quite good.

And can anyone drop some links/names to some records, where it got like alot of people, saying weird shit and funny quotes etc.. Thanks

and dirt style reocords try turntable lab.com they sell some good records for scratchin and they let you hear snippets

and i scratch but not a battle dj or anything i scratch 80's style

yeah, i'll second the dirtstyle rekkids. hee-haw brayks is my standard practice record. downside is just about everyone's got em, upside is their sound quality and layout is top-notch.

also check out anything by ricci-rucker or mike boo, ie. 'phonograph utility record'. its on some next-level, make your own music sht, probably old now...been kinda outta the loop as of late.

if youre looking for original samples, just dig for sound effects, instructional, story book, and soundtrack records.

vestax mixers are good, just stick with the models e.d.e. listed.
if you got the cash, get a rane ttm56...top of the line, IMO.
the pioneer 707 is also real nice with a good price tag.
also check out the ecler hak and the allen-heath xones.

tru ^^ but they got a nice one my buddy mist just hook'd up with i think it's a 07 pro purpleish faceplate with a laser optic fader or tsomething like that but reall great smoothes fader i have seen since the numark one.
and this ones vestex you can go wrong with vestex

the vestax faders are really easy to clean, and fix on your own (if they start to bleed or if the prongs that hold the knob break). not sure about the rest of the models. i currently have an 07, 05 and 56 in my house. i've played on the xone, 707, and the tascam xs8.

i'd rate their faders in the following order (totally subjective, best to worst):
rane>707>xone>vestax>tascam

i agree that the vestax faders are pretty weak in comparison, but if you know how to open them up, and you keep your gear clean, they last quite some time. i've had my 07 for 6 years now and have never needed to replace the fader...not after my friend showed me how to open it up.

if you actually break it, you should check out eclectic break's pro-X-fader...a little more expensive, but it can fit it most scratch mixers, and the specs sound real sweet.

i think that pioneer 707 has an optical fader which should have a really long lifespan...and at $299, thats the best choice for a scratch mixer on a budget, IMO.

ive had my 05proII for three years at least and i got it used...the crosfader is fine, the volumes were dead long ago though..id get an vestax pmc06 they go a bit cheaper than the others its slimmer and has a nice vestax x-fader. i think rane is better quality i like the fell of a vestax scratch mixer fader than a rane..if i was jugglin wild enough the rane fader could bounce back open since its (too) buttery.. ive used a few different mixer and my favorite is vestax pmc series...the 07 is dope, no pots all faders..

for battle weapons i cosign on the otherthings mentioned but id add;

ultimate breaks and beats. nice variety, beats to scratch over, classic vocal samples, grab doubles of some of those and get your juggle on..plus you can mix the tracks into a dj set easy..

allies are sick! craze has put out some ill battle weapons check a-track too..

i fotget which one the skinny vestax is...
but i love it to death. the tan model--its the perfect mixer for me

i like to keep things simple in my set-up: 2 1200s, and that skinny mixer. thats all--nothing more needed to play my vinyl.

now if only i had some money....

Wow, I'm surprised to hear people saying that Vestax faders are questionable.
I've had my 05 Pro since around 1997, and I've never had any bleeding or any problems with it.

theyre only questionable if you don't take care of your gear, ie. no dustcover, or you scratch like a caveman.

also, its only a statement relative to the quality of other mixers, and rather subjective at that.

although, the rane is optical, as well as the pioneer which has tension and cut-in adjustment. so as it is a matter of personal taste, there are also superior features that vestax has yet to implement.

also, i just think that the rane, allen&heath and the pioneer all have better sound quality.

anyways, vestax used to be the top of the line as far as scratch mixers were concerned, but thats just not the case anymore...doesn't mean theyre not worth a look though.

i dont know there house mixers are pretty ill, when i spin on the radio we use a mojo and i'm not to fond of it,i used a pioneer can remeber the model but it's close enuffto vestex never used a H&A but i have seen them at the dj convetions and they dont seem sturdy to me ,

but like you said it's all in your taste. i say go to a store where they have all kinds of mixers and see for your self , see what they feel like then choose, we gave you a bunch of different types to go on , just test drive them now

this works real good in most mixers. I use it in my vestax and it butters up the fader something fierce. I really like it. For good scrath records peep

Ive used the Rane scratch mixer for a few years after using the 05 Pro I like the Rane's sound quality and the fader is smooth. On the other hand there doesn't seem to be a power switch on the Rane and the power connection itself seems kind of fragile, its a cheap plastic plug that looks like something you would plug into a phone.

Yup, the Rane 56 beats the Vestax hands down. I still kept my Vestax after purchasing the Rane though, put a P&G fader in there and it's fine when lubed often enough. I'm actually keeping it for it's sound. In absolute terms it's much less than the Rane but it's metallic sound is great for scratches. For deejaying, recording or sampling it's a piece of shit, better of with a PT-01.

Keep an eye open for the Rane TTM-57SL, to be released in summer 06, it's a 56 with Rane SSL (Serato scratch, info at www.rane.com, although you should know this if you're a deejay) BUILT INTO THE MIXER! I can't talk about it too much though or ima have to change my boxers

If youre worried about Vestax Faders f**king up, there is a mod that allows you to drop the Focus Fader (the OG Optical fader with a lifetime warranty) into most Rane and Vestax mixers. You'll never need another fader again, and the Focus fader costs as much as a Vestax fader. So you can spend $70 each time you replace it...or $70 once and never again.

there is also a mod that allows you to create the "perpetual fader" by modding your Vestax fader.
