How do yall organize your vinyls

so how do you organize your vinyl records when you got hundreds and thousands of em? do you just throw em into crates in the order you bought them, or do you sort them in a specific way? share your tips.

Genre. I used to have them in genre, and alphabetically within the genre, but that kept on getting messed up, so just genre now.

Honestly, I've never actually counted...

I'm lazy, so I prolly never will.

My dusties alone occupy two 6'8" x 5'4" old fireproof steel cabinets tho...
...almost the whole f#@kin' wall !!

If you're just starting out, just alphabetize as you add to it.

Although I guess I do have two sections...I lied about genre.

Dusties(all genres) in the cabinets, and then crates of hip-hop that float around.

I smoke alot, so I can't get worried about what Genre I put something in...

It's easier on the mind to just remember the artist's name.

12" bpm oder from smallest (lowest)bpm to highest(fastest) bpm

then albums by alphabetical order by first name,
my breaks and sample records just thrown in but will soon be alphabetical too.

damn i've been colectin for more then 30 yrs now

i really have to start organizeing my stuff

when i started collecting, i orgaized by alpahbetical order...but that was only like 50-100 records

over the course of 2 or 3 years, i've accumilted 2500+ records...and its still growing...

at this rate, i dont even wanna think how many recorsd im gonna have when i've been collecting as long as ede has...

but i do want at least as much as he has when i get to that point....hehehehe

I keepemkinda like this, sloppy and everywhere blockin my balcony door if they aint in there shelves or crates

Break n Sample records together, a mix of some 25 cent records,free records, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Rock, Metal, Oldies, Soundtracks other various
Rap/Hip Hop/Old School2getz
Battle Records N Double 12's 2getz
A pile of everything mix from spinning sessions

Keepin my vinyl organized is harder then keepin the toilet clean

so I do strict aplphabetical


jazz, rock, soul, hip hop , blues all alphabetized

i seperate out
spoken word/comedy, compilations/ various artist, soundtrack/score, reggae

I have custom oak shelving


I keep a certain space open for new arrivals, and refiles for when I am done listening, I just throw every thing in the new arrival space, and file later when it gets full

my personal collection is about 7000 deep


I have records in storage for my ebay store about 5000 deep


I've been doig this for a long time.

I tend to have my own genres that are more helpfull to me than the standards.

Chilled out stuff:
Jazz-fusion/Eastern jazz/spiritual jazz/freejazz/latin jazz/etc

Extra space for classic Jazz

The black corner:
Anything funk/soul/afro related

The whities corner:
Rock/Pop-80s rock/psychrock/hardrock

Rare & Strange records:
Private pressings, promos, over 200$ records, Concept stuff, my favorite gems..

And my probably largest section:
Libraries and Soundtracks,
sorted by lib-lables then broken down into #'s, osts by country and date

Breaks:
Just jammed together, some are together with the jazzfusion or funk lots.
This doesnt really matter to me as I got most my breaks waved on the pc

and of course, rap section:
anything instrumental, album, 12" related

this way I know what styles to find where and don't have the problem of genre-overlappings.
To me still the easiest way for production use of records

absolutely no order, and it sucks. i move through it pretty quickly though, i never hold on to it. always pass it on and get new stuff.

i never get records i really like, either, just junk i can tear apart.

when i spin its a science for me

golden oldies, blues, jazz/soul/funk, fusion ordered by year, parliament/funkadelic is know to start it off right

45 king beats of the month and other beats/battle records to layer over soul and jazz (if need be)

breakbeats from any genre by BPM slow to fast

all my old school hip-hop together, specially arranged like all the skeletal oberheim dmx drum machine beats togetha, all the 70's inspired and replayed jams togetha, all the electro funk togetha, etc. keep sound effects to drop bombs in between jams

a golden age section (cause ppl love that chit), and sample-based early chit

hip-hop and doubles by BPM, with appropriate a capellas next to corresponding instrumentals, plus scratch records

hit em with madonna and otha chit heads didn't know was funky but is

brazilian funky samba & soul, anything a gringo would call exotic i keep those togetha

then hit em wit the quiet storm sexual healing chit, philly soul pitched down etc.

at the wax temple there's an order but won't get into it, there's a sample this pile and library that i keep a certain way

it could neva be like whatever im too perfectionist

damn xandre that sounds like a mix structure i use to orginize my records like that by the way i was feelin a mix then it just got to complicated started buyin more records and they built up and it was just i had to orginize.

right im perverted when it comes to records i got to fondlem em and put them where i want em
