The "ART" of Crate Diggin'

I've seen a few vids of producers digging and it's cool i guess.But it made me think,is there really an "ART" to looking for records.Don't get me wrong i respect these guys for what they do but basically all they're doing is telling you what THEY prefer and what THEY look for.Most tips are obvious as far as appearance,ring wear and sleeve damage.But i feel like it's the responsibility of every Digga to find what he likes whether it be a sound,genre,label,artist.Am i alone or what?

I feel you.Maybe that's what it is.......the word is used sooooo loosely.I've spent hours in a spot,squating indian style looking through albums just to find one maybe two that i liked.I just feel like these "diggin" vids only show you what someone else prefers and you can't learn the "art" of it by watching some 4 min. clip.I don't know,i think i got up on the wrong side of the bed so you all will have to excuse my rambling.

mpc ,,strykes,.... i feel you guys for realz, that word is used to loosely.
as far as the vids go i just like to watch them because it's what i do , dig get down dirty, in the piss smelling thrift stores wrackin my knees till my knees go numb, store to store i dont realy shop in record stores anymore because well they have to many reissues ,i just went two weeks ago to a store and was looking thru records and found that more then 90% was reissues, and i cant feel that. but dont get me wrong i bought some stuff that i have been lookin for that i prolly would never find for 8 bucks.

but yeah this thread is to make nubies aware of the word and culture of diggin in the crates fuc what you heard and seen on those vids thats what there choice of music is , go out and find what you like and digg for more

I THOUGHT WHEN MY UNCLE LET ME SIFT THROUGH HIS COLLECTION, I WAS DIGGIN.

I DONT THINK ITS A TRUE ART OF DIGGIN. IF YOU PATTERN YOURSELF AFTER WHATS DONE IN THE VIDEOS YOU ARE COPYING. NOT DIGGING. CATS HAVE CERTAIN CRITERIORS ON WHO THEY DIGGIN FOR OR HOW THEY GO ABOUT IT.

I SAY: COLLECT WHAT YOU FEEL IS VALUABLE NO MATTER THE PRICE. ONE DOLLAR TO ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS, IT DONT MATTER. IF YOU FOUND A GEM, YOUR DIGGIN WAS WORTH IT.

I believe anything can be an art if it's done in some pre-conceived fashion and with style & grace.

TRUST THAT WHEN I STEP OUT A GUTTER ASS RECORD STORE WITHOUT A SPECK OF DUST ON MY AZZ I FEEL LIKE DAT ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE, WORD

well. yes im always on the look out for hot loops, good sounds, etc.-all those things to make hot beats...............

but, Im also listening to the music. Sometimes I cop shit just because I like a song..........shit I would never sample, shit that even if you did sample, it wouldnt be hot...........but its shit that I want to hear.

98% of my beats come from the dollar bins, and shit if you didnt listen to the whole record youd never get it.

listening to differant types of music and not sampling it can make your beats hot too! so even if i dont get a sample from something, that doesnt mean its junk........that shit can still be golden.

every record has intros, breaks, solos, notes, chords, shit to sample...........but Im only sampling shit that im feelin and sparks something inside me first. thats just me though
