any ska heads in here

ook , i was into ska back then in the 80's but since then i have got my head so cluster fuct with other music and this genre has been put to the side for a while , now i want to start collecting this stuff moore i got eh basics like
madness
english beat
the specials

some adam ant -goodie shoe
now i need help refreshing my momery on some of this old ska music can you guys help me out on some dope tracks to try to cop
all the help is well appreciated you know i'll put it to good use, help me bring out some of these classics again

some inputs ( and you cant go wrong with them!!! ) :

-the skatalites

-desmond dekker ( great stuff really)

- the ethopians ( its more like rock steady (70's) but can be put in the ska genre)

- U-roy and prince buster ( reaggea - ska)

- byron lee

i dont have the names but :

i know there is a big ska scene in UK, maybe some uk user could have better input than me.

also, ska was the big jamaican music stuff in the 60', so you may dig stuff out from the studio One label (coxsone) and the trojan label (end of the 60's if i remember well)

yeah that's what i thought too. man i wish i had my kid memory so i could remember. what i use to listen too.
I'm trying to up my game for my 80's night , not that i need it but i just want to build on this genre too, this music is so fuc king energetic.

yep, and i also like all their wind instruments of this music ( great source of sampling).

my first cd i got as a kid was Operation Ivy.. loved that sh!t

I'm not really into it, but my mate is well into his Ska. I'll ask him to recommend some stuff.

u need to check early selecter records......specials r tight.... check two tone label.... trojan also has some... check bad manners....there is a dope compilation called ska wars, chek that for references....some later stuff u can check, toasters... hepcat, scoffflaws, skunks..skatalites...check nyc ska label....that operation ivy lp was very dope, more punk type ska though, alot faster.....overall, i like 2tone stuff....i got alot of music from that label... trojan also.....

Check out the toasters there always good and the best band where I'm from is a ska band called fixed idea I would tell you to check out my old band pura miseria but we broke up after realising a 7" in ( in true punk rock fashion) and playing one last show ( operation ivy style). And even though the ep was realesed on my label I have no copies left, man what I would give to have at least one

i was really into 'Voodoo Glow Skulls' as well - they were dope!

gyea... voodooglowskulls r the illest... there more punk style also, just alot of horns to go with it.... dogpile is hype...

In europe u can dig a lot of vinyl of "underground" ska from UK, germany, spain, france and italy, but I don't know if they are avaiable in the US; I will check some names of these lables...
