David Axelrod... what do u think?

today, i finally went diggin around downtown atlanta @ a place called earwax (quite sure all y'all hit it up by now, so i'm late) and i picked up david axelrod's "song of innocence". at first i was like, yea this guy's on some psychedelic, get high on acid & go crazy on the track type shit. i wasn't skeptical at first but after awhile, it ain't bad. i'd have to be high & on an elevator to the 13th floor in NY to really feel it.

OMG!!!! no bullshit! call me late but as i was writing this shit, i just found out where Diamond D sampled Rass Kass's "Soul On Ice" (rmx) from!!! AIN'T THAT A ****?!!! damn, i guess i did come up!
i'm not good at finding samples in records (except for the obvious breaks & stuff) but now i see why people listen to the whole record. it be dem little things people pick up on & flip!!! okay, now i have to learn how to put the concept in my own context.

what do u think about david axelrod?

one of my favorites...no question.

Axlerod is dope... the only album I did not like was "Messiah" ahhh... what a wa$te of time energy and $money...

stay away from that album just incase you haven't encountered and eyed it yet

He makes great music but money is a straight up dick about sampling him.

i see that y'all dig him... tell me exactly why? he's new to me & like i said, his music reminds me of hippie elevator music. i'm just trying to get y'all perspective as why he's good.

Axelrod I dunno his history but he was always the random white guy in his albums doing black music... I have a album of his called "The Auction"... if you know what I mean... just random

dav axlerod is great man ... great drummer great producer

he help David McCallum, produce his album "Music, a Bit More of Me"

and you know who sampled off that right?


Dr. Dre - "Next Episode" he used "The Edge" for thse who didnt know dav produced this album ,
he's a great drummer too.

i dont have any of his records but i can get them there pretty hard to get the good ones,and fairly expensive. but great music elevator or not , it's loungey breaks beats sort of dusty fingers type shi+

yo! thanks everybody for the input cuz i won't be sleeping. i mean, now it makes sense why he was in the soul section of the music store. it was just so funny to me, with this being my first diggin experience in ATL that i picked up the same album my ALL TIME FAVORITE hip hop song was sampled on! the gods must be smiling at me (what up DILLA!!!)
well, needless to say, I DID redo the song... not half bad for a newbie!!!

the electric prunes stuff is where it's at...killer drum patterns , I hear a big influence on guys like Dj shadows entroducing.

You should pick up WaxPoetics they have the own series on him. Plus he`s the cat that work alot with Lou Rawls,

That's kind of silly to say, I mean how would you feel if you wrote something, then some fool looped two bars and got hot off it? If you really knew anything about the dude, you'd know that he spent a fair portion of his time flat broke, so don't tell me that you'd be "honored" that someone was ripping you off while you were living in a shack. And if he was such a dic k about people sampling him, why did he work with mo wax and shadow?

and stones throw......Axelrod is a legend and should have been more known and papered up than he was....Capitol prolly wouldn't have a soul/funk department for another 10 years or so if it wasn't for this man.....he wrote music with feeling and multiple dudes sampled the dude and made timeless bangers off his loops(thaz how good his music was).....but I think his career was cut short because of him doing the type of music he wanted to do and not compromising.......I can not say enough about this man

That mo wax lp aint too bad, but the gemm in my collections gotta be Just Ray Brown. Crazy aussie lounge type singer but has a crazy ass version of Good Day Sunshine with all sorts of stuff for sampling.
