i am looking for songs to sample my bass from. problem is when i try to sample the bass, in most cases, it doesn't have enough umph to it to drive the background. what would be some good records to find a solid bass? or what techniques do you use for filtering the bass out (i know how to use the low pass, but maybe a little more technical)?

use jazz records the older stuff or charlie mingus has good shi+

as far as more umph try to normalize it in a software pro, or compress it and add more filter to it.

if you sample in the mpc go to the sample edit screen and in the params there you can raise the level of the sample to 200 turn it up and then use the lopass. also when your building your seq turn down the track vol so it doesnt down out the bass but as you go to another seq then start to turn up the vol you just lowered if nessesary. then in the mix down turn up a little more bass.

your talkin for basslines right ?
