Lord Finesse mentioned being able to read grooves on the record in the DeepCrates movie... sometimes you can tell there is something interesting on the record by the "rhythmic patterns" in the vinyl grooves... when i dont know a record and im taking a chance with it, i usually inspect the vinyl grooves to see if i recognize any trace of a "rhythmic pattern"... im not sure if it holds much weight in my actual decision of buying the record, theres a lot of other more important factors that help me decide... but if im iffy on a cheap record that im unfamiliar with, and its not gonna break me if i cop it, "rhythmic patterns" MAY influence me to buy the record!
ive been surprised by what ive brought home after deciding on a purchase in this manner, ive also been dissapointed by this process too... i for sure havent got it down to an exact science myself, but it is another way to inspect potential record investments... when you spend enough time examining and buying records, any subtle technique of inspecting records is useful...
even back in the day, i always used to notice the "rythmic patterns" on the track PAUL REVERE on BeastieBoys, Licensed To Ill, it always stood out to me... check it out, its a pretty easily noticable pattern from that backwards drum break!
but yea, i conciously started peepin for this "phenomenon" after hearing about it from LordFinesse on DeepCrates... Finesse is a legend in this hiphop schit IMO... maybe one day i can read grooves as good as him
