Scritti Politti (80's synth pop)

cupid & psyche 85' by scritti politti, picked this record up 3 weeks ago.
Wow, from a technical standpoint...i havent listened to anything this fresh and exciting and fun to listen too, since damn since the Chronic by dre, or loose ends "zagora" album.
From what i researched scritti used the failight sampler/keyboard for a majority of this record. This shit sounds incredible in a good system.
Now than ever before its records like this that inspire me to learn how to write music on a keyboard, the sh*t just sounds so cool.

i dunno about 80's music bein the best ever since alot of it sounds the same imo. electric drums, sounds like the same drum sounds over, everything is just cheap sounding to me

there was more then what you think.

the singer on these scritti politti records is kinda androgenous sounding.
At first i thought maybe he was a she, or really young like 13 or something.
But nah dudes a grown man by the name of green gartside, his voice is f*cking smooth though..and the way he rhymes and phrases his words is cool as f*ck. Mos def even did a song with this dude called "hollywood to the boogie down".
But yeah cop this record, everything on it is amazing...the programming sounds so advanced yet so simple, catchy as hell though.

and i agree with DJ EDE, alot of crate diggers diss the 80's....dont know why, to me the 80's was the last decade that musicians could truly experiment and have fun with their music, scritti politti is a great example of that...you just dont hear sh*t like this anymore.

i feel what your sayin about the 80's bein the last decade where artist's were experimental but i think it backfired in a way, to me alot of 80's music influenced the crappy pop music of the 90's i.e. brittnay spears, nysnc, i just feel the 1960's and 1970's were the most creative years since the music can still be relevant to this day. Not ALL 60's and 70's can be but most of it

with 80's music, some of the stuff is just way too corny sounding and you cant take it serious since so many jokes are based around 80's music in television, movies etc. maybe if the music of the 80's didnt have such a bad rep we'd bump it alot more

"im only human" sounds like something jam and lewis would of did, in fact it might be by them...i dont know, great music though.

no doubt pigpen, dont get me wrong their is some garbage 80's stuff....just like theirs garbage from every decade. And i hate britney spears with a passion, her music does nothing for me..ditto with the backstreet boys etc....But you know i would rather bump new edition or menudo over any of the boy band 90's crap, simply because them 80's beats their were rockin out too, sound better in my ride!

i might be laughed out here for saying this...but New kids on the block on some of there songs had some bomb ass production.

YEAH .....HL is definetly dope stuff too. but i think jam & lewis only made them
more poppy, but still did some great work.

i agree there was some stuff inthe 80's that was trash but like every decade there's stuff that just doesnt go, as far as all these bands poppin up in the 90's they just didnt have the talent very few musicians made music in the 90's at least innthe 80's there was still dudes working the broads and drums machines puttin on great show's and putting out some great albums, i'm not realy talking hiphop here hiphop was another story.
the 80's gave way to what we know as house and techno. the boy bands i dont realy know aboout cause i have not listen to the radio since the 80's at least commercial radio , i listen to college radio,
i think it's just a matter of taste 80's music ,i play out on Fridays and i play all 80's stuff and there's people who enjoy it,and then there's the thugs that dont knnow much about real music that ask for Pac and E-40 and other stuff like that. but when i got a crowd of people cheering for what i play and a bunch of drunk after the Bar closes telling me they want me to play at there Wedding and there daugthers wedding man, it can be as corny as it wants to, this is why i still dj what i play and why i have been doin it for so long, to bring it to the people that apprecaite great music.

but i feel where you coming from i aint trying to convert you over to it .
there was just a lot alot of music made in the 80's it was a start for many f the groups you like now believe it or not.

i got 2 13yr olds that are in jr high and they teach hiphop in there school but i disagree with some of the stuff they teach.

the teacher is some 20 something yrs old. hiphop culture is older then him.

it's funny how they try to teach about something they know nothing about .

did they teach hiphop history/culture in your school?
just wondering what else they teach .
