LMFAO..
Try some old disco joints.. not generic disco tho (not no john travolta type shit).
Also, look for shit by Tavares, and classic hard rock

There is a track called "The Record shop" that actually is a sample but thats another story
seriously tho, there's no samples strictly for hip hop but more a case of what you use and how you use it for whatever genre you want to produce, just trial and error a few pieces that you feel may work and just see where it takes you..... you may be the next big hip hop producer after all purely by accident

Yep, first the witty record store reply and now my edit after highlighting and accidentally dragging it. So funny. The spellchecker of the forum also has such a fresh, clever sense of humor. If this forum had reps, I would so rep you. Jesus, you're good at picking out what's humorous. I'm dying on my swivel chair now that you're trying to act superior on the internet, do you do stand-up?
Other than this kid, thanks for the replies that were actually helpful. What I was trying to find were collections of the basics and classics of the genre. For downtempo, maybe DJ Krush, Four Tet, DJ Shadow... and not limited to artists... could be drum kits, strings, keys, basslines, commonly used in the genre. I was trying to look for simple, raw elements before I sampled vinyl and went onto more complicated techniques.

The thing is homie, there's no short cuts in this game. I know you can get those sample cd's full of bits, but all of those artists you mention (Krush, Shadow etc) are serious, I mean serious diggers.
There are no rules as to where to sample from, but if you're into trip hop kinda stuff (I still hate that term) you could do worse than looking to 70's movie soundtracks, which will have a lot of weird sounds, strings, stabs and noises. Lalo Sciffrin (as C0mplex pointed out) recorded loads of those including all the Dirty Harry soundtracks as well as stuff like Enter the Dragon.
Honestly, the best thing is to get those fingers dusty, and best of luck out there.

samples are just music notes and with them u can do whatever style u like.
listen to some records and sample guitars, bassline, piano, violin all those samles can play trip hop, downtempo, hip hop or pop or...... as personal wishes...
(in my opinion, tricky is the one of best examples for an mpc user.)
