We have a little vinyl meeting at my place on the weekends. A few of us get together, trade wax, put folks up on unknown gems, etc, and my boy made a point that has me wanting to get rid of 90% of my collection. He said,"I don't want anything wack in my collection, everything I touch has to be some hot schyt." Now, I have about 6-7000 records in my collection, but I'm like the vinly roach collector. Stores love to see me because I'll take the crap that no one else wants, I mean, i just want sounds, and a 25 cent record with a hi-hat can sound better than a $100 record with a hi-hat, but I usually play em once.. maybe I'll pick it up again a few years later, but what's the point? Have any of you had to move and take all that crap with you? It's a nightmare!
I find myself now buying records that I want. Dope ish. I got a lot of dope records for a buck, but now I'm diggin for the rare stuff. Not sure if this is a diggin' phase that I'm going through, but it sure is nice to put your hand on ANY record and not think, "this is some bullschyt!" I know I got well over 1000 classical records, and I don't even listen to that stuff. Why keep it? For sampling, do you really need more than (lets say) 20 classical records? Don't they all sound the same anyways?
