Marvin Holmes and the Uptights

Wats good Yall Do yall kno how rare the marvin holmes and the uptights album ooh ooh the dragon is? I have a chance to get a copy for a pretty big sum of cash but I was wondering wat are the chances of me finding this somewhere else for cheaper. I really like this album not only for drums and samples but listening music as well. I just want to know how rare it is.

So, unless you want the original, you can probably find the reissue somewhere for $15 or less.

just check the price guide it say it gpes for 100 , so if you see it for 80 thats a good deal there,

you got to realize that this is a very old record in the OG state,
so if you can find it for a good price ,the condition must be in EX cond.


it sates that there is a reissue so be very carefull,if you pay a high price
people try to get over.

I just grabbed a copy of the original in great shape for 64 cents at an antique mall on Saturday. The cover shows normal wear, but the vinyl looks nice.

I can't wait to get out of work and give it a spin. . .

is it a white inner cover?

thats a good score for 64cent. tell you it pay's to really dig. there out there.

@ dj e.d.e— The inner sleeve is white, and since the punch mark lines up with the album cover, I'm assuming it's the original. I'm curious—what's that indicate?

I'm listening to the album now on my lunch break. Loving it.

NO...it's not ORIGINAL , OG copys are brown greyish cardboard, it's prolly a reissue.

if you check this record is made in 1969 nearly 40yrs ago , they used different cardboard, in the 80's maybe in late 70's they started to print on the white covers...this is how you can tell an Original copy, most of the time. most the the 80's stuff is on white cover but it turns yellowish,but there's some white covers that still look white even after 30 yrs or so,depends on how well it was taken care of, i got a $200 record from 85 OG press that still has the shrinkwarp on looks like it never was played plus it's never been reissued as far as i know.
lucky score for 60 cents.

so IMHO i would say it's a reissue. what color uni label is it? not that that matters but just curious

Thanks for your reply—I may have misunderstood what you were asking—I was looking at the inner sleve (paper sleeve), thinking you were asking if it was plain or if it promoted other albums from the UNI label (maybe different releases used different paper sleeves, type of a question). I'm back at work now, but I'm sure the cardboard was the older, darker kind. Def. not white (like the newer sleeves). My apologies.

I'll take a few shots of it when I'm off work this afternoon (label, sleeve condition). I listened to the full thing over lunch and loved the soul—real "live" feeling to it. Only had one strong pop during playback, late on side A. I was impressed.

I want to tell you thanks, too. I hadn't heard of the album before your initial post and would never have picked it up this weekend without your (and DJ E.D.E's) posts. This forum rocks.

It was actually a great weekend for digging, one of my best runs. My wife and I (a digger, too, I love it!) searched through around 15k unsorted albums in three antique stores and came out with some great stuff (around 100) in the 50c - $1 range.

EastCoast—I was wondering if you ended up buying or not. I'll keep my eyes out for more I'm sure there aren't too many diggers in my area, just a lot of old farmers. If I ever do find one (not likely, but stranger things have happened) and you haven't found one, I'll let you know.

e.d.e, this is the 64 cent copy from the antique store. The original price was $1.50, no one was buying, so it was marked (in red) to 75 cents, and the store was having a 15% off sale that day. I about crapped my pants when I saw it.

The funny part is the writing on the cover? Magic marker: says 25c.

thats what i'm talkin about when you dig up a classic joint and you dont have to pay that much for it ....see why i hate Ebay the classic are outthere

theres an ink eraser that this lady told me about that they sell at HOMEDEPOT and it takes off ink markings ..i havent got one yet but try that out ...if not just leave it ,
