i've dropped shit on my needles before
usually the sound (if you get any at all) is just crackly and etc.
also, if your records have a slight warp or bump, the needle will go plume loco and skip everytime

Increased wear on the grooves - not good if you got some classics you want to keep in good condition. Increased skipping, decreased sound quality..........
Just fork out the money for a new needle!
