AUDIO-TECHNICA ATPL120?

I'm thinking about upgrading to the PL-120. One of the main reasons for this model is that it has a built in pre-amp, so I could plug it straight into my Mp. Right now, I just use my old TT for sampling, but since the pl-120 is a direct drive, I'd like to mess around with scratching. It has a cheap price tag, so there must be something about it that makes it that wy. Anyone ever use one of these? Any feedback is appreciated.

not sure how the torch on that table is but it looks like a technics 1200, but you can't plug a tech in to the mpc either.by it'self. you need a mixer.

why do you want a digital signal from a turn table again?

No I don't need a digital out, it just has a line level out. I wouldn't need a mixer with that would I?

wait inless you go optical cable then, not sure how that line level works out.

unless u got a 4000 you cnat plug anything in directly.

when i had the 1000 the numark joint was the best quality.

No it wouldn't be a digital out. Just analog, but the pl-120 has a built in pre-amp, giving you the option of plugging it directly into a sampler. The only problem is no EQ. The 4000 has its own pre-amp, but with this you wouldn't need it. I use the 1k.

i use the 2kxl and you can't just plug in and sample either inless it's a digial plugin.

how the torc on those, did you say you have one or are you looking to buy it?

Yeah, that was what first drew me to it (that it looks like the 1200s). What I think your missing is that the PL-120 has a built in pre-amp that you can turn on and off. It's a analog out, but if the pre-amp is on it will be at line level so it won't need to be boosted any further. This is a feature that none of the technic's have, and the main reason I am thinking of getting the pl-120 instead of the 1200. It also plays backwards, which is a gimmick, sure, but may just end up being a cool one. As far as the torc, I don't know as I have only read about them. I was hoping to find someone that has used one, as I would love to learn some scratching. Maybe with my tax return...

i understand ...about the pre amp,thats def a plus. i'm a dj first ,so i dont really matter to me , i'm more interested in the torc for the pick up when your scratchin, but thats me i'm oldschool 2TT mixer and a sampler is cool .

if you can check them out in person do it, the price is what gets me , you may be better off with a vestex digital TT,
gemini made some tables that look like these as well but not as good the platter wobbles to much that may be the key to this turn thats why i say check it out in person first before you buy for a few more bucks you can get a used tech 1200 on craigslist that will last you FOREVER!!!!literally.

-as far as back spining you can sample into your mpc and flip the sample to rev. and you get the sample effect

yeah i'm not sure how realiable this may be. i look for realiablity and quality audio technica is a good needle but i have never realy heard anything about there turn tables,

Thanks dj e.d.e. I'll let you know if I find one to mess with. Also, I've been messing with sampling for a long time, and I'm thinking about getting into scratching as a new instrument to learn. If you know of any good tutorials or articles that may help me to get started on the right path, let me know. Starting with setting up a turntable would be a great start. I don't really know anyone I could learn from, so whatever you can offer would help.

check out qbert's do it yourself video one of the best ones . it funny too, but you can lookit up on youtubeor google it and try to find the dvd, my buddy had when it came out and he lent it out and never got it back that sux cause it was a good video.
