basic question

ive been trying to figure out this machine for quite a while know with little help from the instruction book .. i mean maybe it would be easy if it would explain in more detail what every thing does and how it all works together .. so will some one tell me how exactly programs and multies work together and what is the track menu for at the bottom of the main page ...


Also some members helped me out with some midi advice and i have been trying to record my synth on to my mpc but when i strike a spicific key the note is layerd one sound is the synth and one is a sample in my mpc program like a bass note ...

so when i try to create a melody to beat random notes off my synth start playing the same time the samples in ny program plyay ....Why

Im a bit of a newbie myself. you can sample your synth by going into record, settin sample time and using analogue as source though ( though there is a nother way Which i havent done , using main out and a mixer i think)) connecting synth to mpc via audio cables .
You can also not sample your synth by using main page , choosing out a 1 i think or something like that dont have it with me then choose the same channel (1) on your synth and the mpc will trigger your synth and you can use the red buttons at the bottom right of the mpc to record the midi data.the audio will be coming from your synth so youll need to hook it up to speakers but you prob know that. then do same for channel 2 etc.
the way i understand programs and parts and stuff is that you get a sample then you assign it to a program. You can assign a load of samples to a program . like drums for example . then you assign a program to a multi , you can assign loads of programs to a multi so you can play it back by goin to main page and where it says out 1 etc choose part whatever. youll be able to hear it through headphones if you dont have it connect4ed to anything soundwise

the track menu is for putting down tracks on top of one another. match the channell on the mpc to the channel on your synth,use local off on your synth when using mpc to trigger it.I think your getting random note thing cos you havent matched up your channels in the main page.
im at work still pissed from the night before so if this doesnt make sense write back. im no expert so this shit isnt 100 per cent but ill do my best. stick with it. i wanna go home or sit around town and leer at women.
also i cant talk cos i do the same but maybe post in newbie forum and go back to start of it and look through it.theres tips and crap.good crap.

If you are reading the Akai owners manual that came with the MPC, give up! The thing is pretty useless. Go to the Akai web site and download the Refrence Manual. It's still not that good considering all the OS changes but it is helpful. I think it was part Akai policy to keep all manuals near 100 pages. Also, try reading the Manual for the MFC 42 it is actually helpful to understand LFO's and such.

What`s a Sampler? What`s a Sequencer and so on series are very basic and easy to understand especially the Emile Menasche revised ones. I highly recommend them and afterwards reread the manual and then everything in the MPC manuals will start to make sense.
