Need some major help here...Please

I just got my MPC4000 (used) the other day from a pawn shop seller on Ebay and ever since I received it I've had this problem. 9 out 10 times when I power it on, the MPC doesn't recognize (or see) the internal 60gig HD and the CDRW drive. I get the message "No Disk".
I have to keep starting it over and over and over (for what seems like an eternity) before it can finally see them. Has anyone experience this problem? Could it be a problem with the IDE cable or the HD itself? I was thinking about replacing the HD with a 120 gig Western Digital HD later today...would that solve the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

yo dawg,

we can't really say what's bad about this unit

it could be a cable that s not well connected or a failing hard drive or worse, a problem with your MPC

check these 3, if your MPC is still under warranty, use the it...

by the way, could you use a smaller picture for your avater, 'cos this one is really too big and make the pages look weird

try this one for example:

Disconnect the HDD and CD and see if the MPC boots up better.

Seemed that it was the HD that was causing this problem all along!
I swapped it with the Western Digital HD and I've been sailing away smoothly since then. I've restarted the MPC numerous times for testing purposes and it boots up perfectly everytime. Thanks Adrian and Misterv for your suggestions!!!!
I've even been inspired to start working on this house track. It'll take me a while to compose it perfectly since this is just my first week with an MPC and I've got so much too learn. But the fact that it doesn't hang up or freeze up like my computer used to do at times when I'm composing makes me a happy man and so far I'm happy I made this purchase.

In closing I have a couple of questions for you guys....
1) Is it possible to use more than 1 multi per sequence or song?
2) Is there a pencil tool in the seq edit mode that I'm missing out on? It would be so much easier to enter notes that way for precise editing. If there isn't such a pencil tool, is there a work around for this?
3) Does any one know if Akai will add Stream sample from disk feature during playback and recording anytime soon? -similar to Kontakt.

1 yes you have to assign in the multi page and use a multi change

2 no pencil you have use the pads or keys you can adjust easily in step edit if need be. Plus make sure the monitor edit mode is on to listen to your edits.

3 you have to go to akai site download OS 1.60 and then you will have streaming audition.
