Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

"By right-clicking on the sampler icon at the top of the browser window (in ak.sys), you can launch the ak.sys virtual remote panel. Every function in the sampler is available in real tme..."

I can't do this presently. The sampler icon (which will "show device front panel") is greyed-out, as is the "Show Meters" icon next to it. Any ideas as to how I can access these features? Thanks for your time.

Aksys is a network application for z8, z4, mpc4000 and the dps24. so you can link all this together in one place. Aksys is able to recognize, which device you have connected, so if you only connect your mpc to it, you will not see the z8-control panel and of course not the dps24-meters.

Thanks, Frank, for your reply. The reason for my confusion is that the sampler in the MPC4K is a Z8, so I thought I could access its functions using ak.sys. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

Hi!

I think I see your point Digibird, and although having access to all frontpanel functions of the MPC4000 via AkSys sure would be cool, I think this would need a major rewrite of the AkSys software. Also, I belive it would be a step away from the philosophy behind the MPC... :)

Even though the sampler-engine of the MPC4000 and the Z8 is similar, the front-panel layout and user interface of the two is quite different. Z8 (and Z4) is similar to the previous rack-samplers like S5000 and S3000, whereas the MPC4000 is based on the earlier MPCs (obviously).

Am I making sense here?

Cheers,

Arne S.

Yes, Bitstreem, perfect sense. The salient point being that although the Z8 and the MPC4K share the same sampling engine, I should not expect ak.sys to "access all front panel controls" of the Z8 within the MPC4K. Same sampling engine, different front panel. I still like the idea of ak.sys having this capability: Virtual control of a virtual front panel whoose controls you virtually understand.

How is your Music-World configured, or should we post that elsewhere? I am always curious how people create. ( I slave the MPC4K to Nuendo.)

Thanks for your input. Any other thoughts welcomed.

Hi!

I see we're virtually on the same level here... Regarding my music-world: I sent you a PM, we can take it from there.

Cheers,

Arne S.
