how durable is the 4000? have you had to replace anything?

how durable is the 4k ?

Would you say more durable then the 60/3000?


I'd says its definitely more durable then the 1k, 2.5, 5k etc





Have you had to replace anything on your 4k?


Has anyone ever modified their 4k. Anything more then the viking hat bolts near the pads mod.

From my experience, its been pretty solid. I've had mine for almost 6 yrs now and the only upgrades I've done was to the HD (60 to a 160 gig) and added the adat board.

The stock 60 gig deskstar was a bit too noisey and had to go. I'm the type of person that hates to abuse things so I can't comment on how well it takes major bumps and bruises.

But if you're considering one and it's in pristine condition, grab it.

Every time I take mine n the road, I have to send it to Forat for repair. The sound stops working. A 400 dollar repair every time.

what does Forat say is the problem?

What means of transport are you using? Any road cases being used, or is it a grab and carry type thing?

The 4k has best quality overall. Don't see all the parts failing like on the newer or even older MPC. Only thing is replacing that old loud HD and the pad sensors go after a while. The screen may go out eventually but many still have perfect original screens. As long as you take care of it it will last.

I just bought a 4000 off ebay that turned out to be a bit of a lemon. The previous owner made some upgrades to it and obviously didn't know what he was doing. So many problems. Heck, half the screws were missing. Anyway, I noticed that the contrast control for the screen was really flaky. In some instances I had to apply pressure to the contrast knob to light up the lcd. I figured the problem was the contrast pot.

I took apart the lcd screen and unsoldered the contrast pot. It took me a little while to figure out the exact specs for this part. Luckily I found the service manual online. And after reading the technical specs on the Alps website I was able to figure out a suitable replacement. I ordered the part from mouser and soldered it in. Viola, works again. I've read about a couple other people online having the same problem with the contrast control.

FWIW, here's the mouser part number for the replacement Alps 10k pot: 688-RK09D1130C2P

Has anyone had to replace the jog wheel?????????? I've heard about the 2.5 jog wheel going bad b4.

Through hole. It was actually pretty easy. The hardest part was taking the lcd apart and putting back together.

Another heads up. People claiming they needed to replace buttons that are not responsive can usually be solved by blowing compressed air under the button. Usually just dirty contacts. Just have to open the top panel.
