Keygroup confusion

KG's have got me confused and frustrated... here's the deal... I have 5 different chopped samples, and I want to span each sample within a seperate octave on my keyboard... each sample will be set to the same mute group... soo... I've made my new program... selectected Keygroup as the type... I've gone into the KG Mix and assigned each sample to it's own zone (I'm guessing this was right, I was hoping I could just assign the sample to a different bank for each sample)... I see to the right where it has C2-G8 (representing the midi notes)... I've messed around adjusting these settings, and it didn't map across the kb the way i expected... so I went back... and hit the window button in the left number feild and hit the Arrange button... and the samples played (although I have to hit the octave up/down on the Motif to find them)... and some of them were still layered (i guess because I didn't mess with the zones correctly)... anyway, to make a long story short, can someone provide a template (step by step) of settings for what I'm trying to accomplish, or a link to a thread where this question been answered... sorry for the idoit question... but I'm tired of the uckin with the manual/ref... experimenting and confusing myself further... I've been successful with one sample in a keygroup, but not multiple samples... I've done a search... but I guess i didn't dig into the results far enough to find my answer... Anyway... Thanks for your help...

Are you using os 1.60?

In os 1.60 you assign the zones for the samples like you did, and then in kg mix\ pitch, highlight span low\high then press the window button, where it says set keyrange via midi: select yes, now when you're on a sample zones highlight the span low, now press the low key on your keyboard and it will set the low end of the zone now press the high note on your keyboard and it will set the high end of the zone, repeat steps for other sampled zones. Hope this is what you wanted.

Yo... Jones... everything you stated worked... but the original pitch of the samples changed according to the higher or lower octaves... and ideas on how to retain the original pitch of the samples even though they are being triggered by a different octave... I know it's possible and it's prolly operator error on my part... do you have a quick fix? Or would it be easier for me to make an individual Prog/KG for each sample, and make individual keyspans for each program...I think theres something I screwing up when it comes to the Zones... Once again I appreciate your help...

OK, now in the kg mix\pitch screen highlight the sample zone and press the window button, now it gives you the option to set the original key, as default it's always set to C 3, but you can set it for what ever you want it, this should do the trick for you. peace.
