Am I right in thinking the front usb is for connecting an external HD from which to load samples? If this is the case how do you go about getting the mpc4k to recognise the ext HD? If it isn't for this purpose...what is it for?

If you haven't already done so, reference as much info as you'd like http://www.akaipro.com/mpc4000. I kinda trust more from the source rather than hear say or folk lore.

And as a reference to the 16 megs, it's what's imbeded on the main board. All 4k's come like this until you add or upgrade the memory.

If this is the case with you not seeing nothing but 16 megs, then you need to see if the ram was removed, or it's not seated right, or bad. It's gotta be one of the three.

And the front usb port is for usb keyboards, thumb drives or whatever works. You'll probably want the back usb for hd's.

Well there are 2 ram sticks in there but they aren't showing up under global>memory. I've ordered some more to see if they will work. I hope so as I don't like to think of the alternative....

The new ram sticks don't work either... and to add to my complications the screen has stopped working! I think its off to the repair shop for this mpc4k...
