mpc will detect the hdd but won't format

I had a spare 200GB Maxtor Diamondmax laying around, and I figured I'd stick it in my mpc. It can detect it, it calls it UNKNOWN VOLUME, and when I go to to format it it goes through the process of formating the drive, but when it's done it still just says UNKNOWN VOLUME and can't be accessed. Is there anyway around this? If not it really ain't no thang, just figured it'd be better than my piddly little 20GB drive in there. Im about to try formatting the drive in my pc and then sticking it in, could that work?

Have you checked out the jumper settings on the hard drive yet?

Plus I think formatting it on the pc would be better since the 4k will only format a large drive to 127 gigs if I'm not mistaken.

Turns out my hdd is probably dead. Son of a B! I can't get it to format in anything, I can't get it to show up in windows at all. Yeah, I messed with the jumper settings, Anyway, I believe this may have turned out to be the most useless thread of all time.

NEVER NEVER NEVER use a Maxtor HDD. They are carppy HDD's spin the extra couple of dollars and get a better one.

Yeah, I agree with that, it was just laying around as an extra part from a computer I fixed. No biggie. People have put as big or bigger hdds in their mpc4000s though, right? I'd like to some day, my 80 is getting kind of full.
