How do I set up my sample to: P
Press a pad once, and plays sample in ONE SHOT
but if I press the pad again, it stops the sample
press the pad again and it plays the sample from the the the start?????

is that part of setting the voice?

try to stop your sample with a "blank sample". put the sample with nothing in it into the same mute group as your other sample so it cuts that one off.

press pad 1 (one shot)
press pad 2 (blank) cuts off pad 1
press pad 1 again to restart the first sample.

thats how I would do it.

But that's not how to do it, the key to the 4k is understanding the association between samples/programs/keygroups.
As someone mentioned you just limit the Poly setting to 1, that makes the sample retrigger with each strike.
You could also do it with a Mute Group using 2 pads but no reason to.

You guys need to join the Yahoo 4k group so you can download the manuals and addendums from there.
There are different versions of the same manuals out there and some don't cover everything.
The manuals that came with my 4k BL were for 1.71 and pretty small compared to what I later was able to download.
Also take some time and actually go through the bible at the top of the 4k forum it covers pretty much all you could ask about understanding the 4k.

^^^^^^
That's not what he wants the sample to do though. That will just:
play sample>(press pad again)>cuts off sample by re triggering it so sample plays again.
he might not want the sample to play straight away but still have the ability to cut it off.
The mute option sounds workable, just remember to label your setup well.

I missed that he wanted to stop it.
Then my second suggestion of the Mute Group is what he should use.
Any pad that's playing while assigned to a Mute Group will choke when any pad assigned to that same Mute Group is played.

???????
I still answered correctly which is to use Mute Groups.
The pad cut off was how the old MP's went about it.
The 4k started the Mute Groups thing and and all the Numark units have followed.

But hey I'll chill and just waste my time some where else.

Sovereign is right. Definitively kicking knowledge to all much respect to him.

As for trick's question mute group does exactly what is says mute groups of samples assigned to the same group. Hence you are in program pitch page and you will see the polyphony column and mute group column.

Polyphony means how many times the note will ring/trigger like a piano key several times overlapping if set to say 10 or more or a closed hi hat once if it is set to one. Also it makes a program mono so other one note at a time will play. With phrase loops we do the same set the polyphony to one to get the stutter effect.

Mute groups was designed for hi hats in fact you assign your closed hi hat to mute group 1 and your open hi hat to the same mute group 1 and they will cut each other off when the other plays. Any sample you assign to that particular group will cut off the other sample when played. Hence you can do the same with phrase loops too.

This is the basics of how all full samplers work. You can see it on any system through it may have different names.

I had the same misunderstanding when I first started too. Learn from the manuals were the parameters are though.

There are no secrets, it's all written down.

Ultimately the machine is in front of you, work it out.

Keeping it real clint, I read manuals and search the forum, (thats how I found this) but If i was newb i'd be lost, the manual really doesn't get in to the best details.

BUT with that being said, this is the most useful thread I've ever read on this forum, props to everyone who dropped knowledge in this cause some of these things aren't found in the manual I have and instead pandering around the interface all night I"m making beats almost as easy as i was a few days ago on the 2500.

Again Thank You
