disconnecting fx board

Hi, I have a problem with booting my MPC4000 successfully. I tried everything (checked cables, disconnected HD, CD-rom drive and memory, reinstalled the OS) and still the OS just doesn't load. It freezes giving me a blue screen or sometimes I get a flash ROM failure, invalide code message. However since I remember from when the unit actually worked that the FX board is bad, I would like to remove or just disconnect the Fx board to see if this is the cause BUT don't know how to do it. I checked the service manual and no info on this board there. Can someone please help me?

i dont know for sure, but I suspect it's best if you open it up and look first hand... either there is a connector or a ribbon cable that could be disconnected... I also suspect there is the chance it is held down with screws so you could undo that too.

also, have you tried reinstalling the OS?

What happens when you turn on the MPC? Does the Flash Rom failure message come on right away?

mr_debauch: as I said I reinstalled the OS too. The FX board is the hardest to get your hands on. It's buried beneath the CPU board. I guess I have to disassemble the whole thing to get to it. Is there an easier way like just disconnecting the cables? If so, which ones? Are the cables connected to the IO board or CPU one?
adrian: sometimes right away sometimes just the blue screen appears with no message or with message after a 30 sec or so. After a bunch of on/off clicks it finally booted .Also, I want to try to install the 1.6 OS to see if any difference but the OS loader doesn't find the MPC4000 even if it worked before and the driver is installed. The computer sees it but when clicking on loader it says there ain't one

It sounds like you tried it all. Go ahead and try removing the effects board. The board itself has a connector that mounts to directly to another board. There is no cable. You will have to pull the boards apart with your hands. It will feel like they will break but they won't. Good luck.

I forgot to mention. If you can get the MPC to load properly try loading the OS via CD ROM.
