I'm wondering how my fellow square pushers prepare a sample library dump, as few libraries these days constrain their sample naming schemes to 8 characters. Im old school and try and stay up when I can, but renaming samples is like a 9 to 5, we only do it cause we have to. Any of you clever swordsmen have a more creative methodology of naming your samples in bulk batches, rather than editing every single sample? Im currently just copying and pasting each individual sample name in Aksys or worst yet, wheel scrolling my 4K to death. Im thinkin a sample editor or a python script before the dump? Maybe theres a simpler solution? Anyone doing anything like this? Just curious as I'd like to think there is a better way? Finally, big ups and much respect to my mentors and teachers on the forum, my humblest of thanks and gratitude for your roles in creating this monster. "Its alive" -- Kd

My rule is NO LOOP PACKS. saves me heaps of mucking around. Actually i do have a few drums libs of course from here and there. but as i usually only collect drum hits and as its never more than a few so i do it manually. I did want to try and dump some stuff on a Roland Fantom to check out its sampling and needed to change sample rates and names, so i borrowed an old copy of cubase 3 loaded em up in the media pool, renamed and exported to other bit and sample rate. But yeah as above there are a few batch edit tools out there.

Thanks guys, was just feeling around for alternatives, some really sharp cats here doing great work, so I just thought I'd poke around and see what work-arounds pushers were workin with.

Hahahahhaa..

I've used ckrename for many years now. It's a free batch-file renamer, and it's EXCELLENT. I'm sure someone
can come up with one for Mac though. I've never owned a Mac, I've always built my own pc's
so I can't help you with Mac stuff big dog.

Some people back in the day actually used to get offended when they see gold letters in their threads.
Ole sensitive mofo's.

for my drums samples I keep all backed up on my pc cause i go through a lot of mpc's and I just highlight them all right click, select "rename" type kick and the pc will add a number behind the rest of them, from there I jump drive em to the 4k, takes like 3 minutes at most.
