RAM slot problem

Hi!
I've problem with my Ram slot in mpc 4k.
I have compatible Ram(at 100%),but when I attaches them to slot(512MB) I see only 400MB.
I sthat blaim of PCI or slots?

Do you know the clock speed & if it's pc100 or pc133 MHz memory as well?

So it must be two 256 meg sticks I take that you're working with?

bad ram, try a different one

I bought some from a German company, all tested on Z4 and 4000's pre shipping. should be good, and was cheap too

Yes,I have 2x156 MB stics.
I don't know clock speed.
Parameters:
2x Kingston CL2 256MB; non-ecc value;133x.
I think taht it's balim of slots,cuz when I change stics in slots I have for example 272MB,and I must change again to have more.
Any other ideas?

ok.

16mb built in ram.

when you have one 2 stick of 256 RAM you have 272MB

when you have both ram slots filled up, with 256 sticks then the internal ram disappears.

one of your ram sticks is bad, trust me.
the mpc4000 is reading it as a 128MB stick, thus incompatible.


slot one = 256
slot two = 128(an error)
since your mpc is reading the ram wrong then the on board 16MB is still being read

the math is simple.
256 + 128 + 16=400

I would do one last check that your RAM is seated properly in the slot.

I remember my slots being very stiff and I had to push VERY hard to insert my RAM and get it to work properly (I was worried I was going to break something!)

But if you can't fix it that way, time to buy new RAM....

Remember of course to always take electrostatic precautions when dealing with RAM, as you can easily destroy a stick with static electricity from your fingers.,

I have the same problem with my Akai Z4 - displays 400MB of RAM. It has two 256MB modules of Kingston PC133 RAM. Kingston is (or was) a pretty good vendor. I see a lot of Z4/Z8's for sale saying they have 400MB of memory, so this must be a common problem. I'm guessing it'll probably be tricky finding two paired 256MB memory modules that the Z4/Z8 will recognize properly. Given that PC100/PC133 RAM is pretty much obsolete, it will be even harder to find two modules that'll work.

Does anyone actually have a Z4/Z8 that has 512MB and actually displays that it has 512MB? Just curious.
